What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend BIM (Building Information Modeling) Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend BIM Specialist, you need proficiency in architectural or engineering design principles, a relevant degree, and experience with BIM methodologies. Expertise in software like Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and familiarity with clash detection or model coordination tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate on projects and address issues efficiently. These competencies are crucial for delivering accurate digital models, ensuring project timelines are met, and supporting successful teamwork during weekend operations.

How does working as a Weekend BIM Coordinator differ from a standard weekday BIM role?

Weekend BIM Coordinators often focus on supporting project teams that require off-hours coordination or maintenance, ensuring that digital models are updated and ready for work resumption on Monday. This role may involve more independent work, troubleshooting, and flexible communication with weekday teams to ensure seamless project continuity. While you may face challenges such as limited immediate support and tighter deadlines, you gain valuable experience in problem-solving and autonomy, which can be an asset for career advancement in BIM management.

What are Weekend BIM jobs?

Weekend BIM jobs refer to positions that involve Building Information Modeling (BIM) work, but are specifically scheduled for weekends. These roles are ideal for professionals or students seeking part-time work or those who wish to supplement their weekday employment. Weekend BIM professionals may assist with 3D modeling, project coordination, or updating construction documentation using BIM software. Employers may require familiarity with industry-standard tools like Revit, Navisworks, or AutoCAD. We are currently seeking a BIM Specialist to lead the integration and coordination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) across fast-paced multidisciplinary projects, ensuring project objectives are met through effective model management and collaboration. This position will serve as a key technical resource, supporting project teams and fostering strong BIM practices throughout the project lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models using industry-standard software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCad) for architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and other engineering disciplines
  • Perform clash detection, model coordination, and constructability reviews to identify and resolve conflicts early in the design and construction phases
  • Lead BIM coordination efforts for multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring the seamless integration of models and data. Specifically, this will be a mix of in-house processes/elements and external design consultants throughout the whole project lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to establish and maintain BIM standards, protocols, and workflows
  • Act as the primary BIM resource for team members, internal customers and external design consultants, addressing technical issues and optimizing BIM processes for project success
  • Work with with the design and construction teams to keep a living model that will culminate in an as-built of the facility at hand
  • Lead the transition of BIM workflows from third-party providers to in-house operations, including data migration, process documentation, and training of team members
  • Generate accurate construction documentation, quantity takeoffs, and visualizations to support project bidding, procurement, and on-site execution
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in BIM environments and recommend software/tools/process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, providing BIM expertise to inform design decisions and mitigate risks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or construction management
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a BIM specialist or Modeler in a construction or engineering environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in BIM coordination, with multidisciplinary experience on high rise projects
  • Experience modeling multiple disciplines (e.g., architecture, structural, MEP).
  • Exposure to high rise construction projects is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have owned BIM coordination through construction administration on multiple large scale projects and have a solid understanding of means and methods of construction
  • Experience in aerospace, high-tech manufacturing, or mission-critical facilities projects.
  • Proficiency in BIM authoring and coordination tools, including Revit (advanced level), Navisworks, and related plugins; familiarity with Dynamo or similar scripting for automation.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary coordination workflows, clash detection, and federated modeling in large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architectural, engineering or MEP-focused BIM workflows, with the ability to drive project success through effective model coordination and communication.
  • Certification in BIM (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Architectural Design/Structure/MEP, or AGC BIM Certificate).
  • Knowledge of advanced BIM integrations, such as reality capture (e.g., laser scanning with Trimble or Leica), VR/AR visualizations, or cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., Autodesk BIM 360/ACC).
  • Design experience in architecture, engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools and integration of BIM data for structural engineering applications.
  • Experience with Siemens NX
