Position Description
Summary/Objective:
The Junior BIM Specialist supports the development, coordination, and maintenance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) models and construction documents for commercial electrical projects. This position works under the guidance of experienced BIM personnel and project team members to create and update accurate electrical models and drawings while developing knowledge of BIM standards, electrical construction practices, and coordination processes.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical training in CAD (Computer-Aided Design), Drafting, BIM, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Entry-level candidates or candidates with up to two (2) years of relevant CAD, BIM, drafting, or construction experience will be considered.
  • Previous exposure to commercial electrical construction is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge or experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Navisworks Manage, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of 3D modeling and construction drawings.
  • Ability and willingness to learn electrical BIM modeling, coordination procedures, and company standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in the creation and development of Electrical BIM models under the direction of senior BIM personnel.
  • Interpret drawings, sketches, specifications, and written instructions to assist with the preparation of electrical models and drawings.
  • Create, modify, and update 2D and 3D drawings and BIM models using Revit, AutoCAD, and other applicable software.
  • Assist with reviewing models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support BIM coordination activities with other construction trades.
  • Assist with clash detection and review using Navisworks Manage.
  • Make model and drawing revisions based on instructions from BIM Specialists, project managers, engineers, designers, or other project team members.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating BIM project documents, drawings, and models.
  • Support the preparation of coordinated plan views, layouts, and other BIM deliverables.
  • Use appropriate notations, symbols, and drawing standards when preparing or revising drawings.
  • Assist with quantity extraction and verification from BIM models as needed.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files and assist with BIM file exchange and archiving.
  • Participate in BIM coordination and project meetings as required.
  • Review drawings and models to identify potential discrepancies and bring concerns to the appropriate team member.
  • Assist with incorporating field conditions and project changes into drawings and BIM models.
  • Visit jobsites as needed to gather information, verify field conditions, or assist with project coordination.
  • Develop an understanding of applicable building codes, electrical standards, and company BIM procedures.
  • Meet established project deadlines and communicate potential delays or issues to the supervisor.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and knowledge of BIM software, electrical construction, and coordination practices.
  • Perform other duties not specifically stated herein, which may be assigned periodically by the supervisor.
