About the Position

The BIM Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in the planning, coordination, and execution of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes across projects. This position is responsible for ensuring all HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems are accurately modeled, fully coordinated across trades, and aligned with real-world installation and prefabrication strategies.

The BIM Coordinator serves as the bridge between design, project management, and field executiondriving coordination efforts, reducing clashes, and ensuring projects are delivered right the first time.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, coordination, and management of BIM models for HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Oversee multi-trade coordination using BIM tools to identify, track, and resolve clashes between mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems.
  • Facilitate and lead BIM coordination meetings with internal teams, subcontractors, and external partners.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to ensure models reflect real-world installation methods, sequencing, and constructability.
  • Review and approve BIM models, shop drawings, and spool drawings for accuracy and completeness prior to fabrication and installation.
  • Support and enhance prefabrication efforts by ensuring models contain the level of detail required for efficient production and field installation.
  • Establish and enforce BIM standards, workflows, naming conventions, and best practices across all projects.
  • Manage model version control, updates, and documentation to maintain accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform and/or oversee as-built modeling to accurately capture final installed conditions.
  • Extract quantities and model data to support estimating, procurement, scheduling, and project tracking.
  • Mentor and support BIM Assistants and other team members in developing modeling and coordination skills.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve BIM processes, efficiency, and integration with field operations.

Performance Objectives

  • Deliver fully coordinated, clash-free BIM models that significantly reduce field conflicts and rework.
  • Ensure BIM models align with project schedules, installation sequencing, and prefabrication strategies.
  • Strengthen collaboration between office and field teams through accurate, timely, and actionable model information.
  • Drive improvements in project efficiency, quality, and profitability through effective BIM coordination.
  • Maintain high standards for model accuracy, consistency, and constructability across all projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 35+ years of experience in BIM, CAD, or MEP (HVAC/Plumbing/Mechanical) construction
  • Strong proficiency in Revit required; experience with Navisworks and AutoCAD required or strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of HVAC systems (ductwork, airflow, equipment), piping systems, and mechanical layouts
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals
  • Experience with clash detection and coordination processes
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on constructability and field application
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with both office and field teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading BIM coordination on commercial or industrial construction projects
  • Familiarity with prefabrication and modular construction workflows
  • Experience mentoring or leading junior BIM staff
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and sequencing concepts

  • Pay Rate: Based on experience and expertise.
