BIM Coordinator (BIM/VDC Leadership - Major Projects)
Location: Various (Project-Based)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel: Required
Build the Digital Backbone of Complex Construction Projects
At Mi-Tech, we deliver end-to-end engineering, design, and construction support for utility and infrastructure projects across the country. From concept through execution, our teams focus on practical, innovative solutions that drive efficiency, constructability, and long-term value.
Founded in 1985 and part of the Michels Family of Companies, Mi-Tech brings decades of expertise across engineering, environmental, laboratory, and field services. Our continued growth-including the recent merger with J.D. Hair & Associates-has strengthened our capabilities in trenchless, geotechnical, and structural engineering.
As projects become more complex, BIM is at the center of how we plan, coordinate, and deliver work. This role is an opportunity to help lead that evolution.
Position Overview
As a BIM Coordinator, you will lead BIM/VDC execution on large, complex construction projects, with an immediate focus on a major data center initiative.
You will serve as both a technical lead and project coordinator, managing models, driving coordination efforts, and collaborating across internal teams and external partners. In parallel, you will play a key role in building Mi-Tech's long-term BIM capabilities-developing standards, mentoring team members, and helping transition BIM work to fully in-house execution.
This role requires a proactive leader who can balance technical expertise with team leadership in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the internal BIM lead/project manager for major projects, including a large-scale data center initiative
  • Lead and coordinate multi-discipline BIM models, including clash detection, issue tracking, and resolution
  • Manage both internal BIM staff and external subconsultants (20-30 technicians), including task assignment, workload balancing, and quality oversight
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve BIM standards, templates, workflows, and best practices
  • Set up and manage project models, coordinates, worksets, and BIM Execution Plans (BEPs)
  • Perform model QA/QC and support milestone deliverables
  • Lead BIM coordination meetings and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure constructability and execution alignment
  • Serve as a key communication hub, translating models and technical information for stakeholders and project teams
  • Manage model exchanges and coordination with consultants, partners, and external stakeholders
  • Support construction teams with model-based coordination, RFIs, and as-built documentation
  • Provide ongoing technical guidance and BIM support to project team members
  • Assist with point clouds, record models, and workflow/process improvements
  • Lead BIM/VDC efforts across major project portfolios and support strategic growth initiatives
  • Build, mentor, and develop an internal BIM team, supporting the transition to fully in-house BIM execution
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What it takes?
  • 8-10+ years of BIM/VDC experience
  • Strong proficiency with Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Inventor, and related BIM software
  • Experience working with or directly for contractors on construction projects
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders
  • 3+ years of leadership experience, including managing teams or mentoring junior staff
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience supporting data center construction projects (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Willingness to travel and support project-based assignments
Work Environment & Travel
  • Initial assignment will be on-site for project startup (2-6 months)
  • Current project locations include:
    • Milwaukee, WI Metro
    • St. Louis, MO Metro
    • Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX Metro
  • Expect minimum 4 days/week on-site, with periodic weekend travel home
  • Long-term home base ideally at a Michels/Mi-Tech facility (flexible for senior candidates)
  • Ongoing collaboration with distributed teams across locations including Washington, Utah, Illinois, New York, and Oklahoma
  • Combination of office, coordination meetings, and active construction project environments
Why Mi-Tech?
  • Ranked among the top 10% of ENR Top 400 Contractors
  • High-impact work supporting critical infrastructure and complex construction projects
  • Family-owned company with long-term stability and growth
  • Strong investment in employee training (~$5,000 per employee annually)
  • Opportunity to build and lead BIM capabilities at scale
  • Safety-first culture-everyone is responsible
  • Part of one of North America's most diversified infrastructure contractors
Comprehensive Benefits Package
  • Health, Dental, and Life Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Legal Assistance and Identity Theft Protection Plans
Why you?
  • You thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • You enjoy solving complex coordination challenges using technology
  • You take pride in ownership, quality, and execution
