Job description

As a Tech Ops Apprentice within the Broadcast Engineering team of the Information Services (IS) division, this position offers essential hands-on experience by providing technical assistance for the setup and operation of broadcast and venue systems across campus. The apprentice supports the seamless execution of campus events by working closely with Tech Managers, Engineers, and campus stakeholders, gaining exposure to a wide range of audiovisual, network, and broadcast technologies. Under supervision, the apprentice helps implement technical standards, participates in troubleshooting system issues, and adapts to the dynamic needs of each event. Serving as a support link between the IS division and campus event organizers, the apprentice assists in fulfilling requested technical needs and ensuring venue systems are properly prepared. Furthermore, this role provides opportunities for learning and growth by assisting in the deployment and testing of new technologies, maintaining basic records, and contributing to the improvement and upkeep of venue systems and infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with event set up to requested specifications.
  • Support Field Technician(s)/Engineer(s).
  • Communicate customer requests via appropriate channels.
  • Keep event venue IS spaces clean and report functional issues.
  • Assist with the venue system set up and operation.
  • Ability to precisely follow directions from Engineers as well as venue checklists.
  • Perform cable terminations and installation of cable in venues/Tech Core(s).
  • Document and test network port changes for venues.
  • Assist in system testing with Engineering.
  • Create and maintain system diagrams and documentation.
  • Always maintain a safe working environment.
  • Must be a team player with strong relational and organizational skills.
  • Required to work flexible hours, including frequent nights and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

Education and Experience
  • One year experience in broadcast, IT, or related field.
  • HS Diploma

To obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver's license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Must possess exceptional visual acuity, including the ability to see fine details and accurately distinguish colors, in order to identify visual defects, maintain the creative and technical quality of video content, and carry out precise tasks such as equipment installation, signal monitoring, and system calibration.

  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop to conduct business.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform office functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. Most tasks will be completed in venues that may be outdoor or indoor. Weather can be a factor, and staff are expected to provide clothing appropriate for each situation. Productions also involve dirt and filth accumulation, and staff should be aware of the risk of pests, insecticides, and poisonous plants. May be required to lift or transport heavy equipment in severe weather situations.
