Solar Apprentice Electricians play a key part in the transition to renewable energy by helping to install clean energy solutions.

What does a solar apprentice electrician do?

As a solar electrician apprentice, you train under the supervision of a journey-level solar electrician to learn the skills needed for the job. As a student, you help install, repair, and maintain solar energy equipment such as solar panel systems. Your duties include assisting with the installation of new solar panels and the rehabilitation of existing equipment. You also work with related devices such as battery storage units and net metering systems that connect the solar panels to the electrical grid. Your training involves working in an outdoor environment throughout the year. Apprenticeships also involve classroom work.

As a Solar Apprentice Electrician, your first year will typically involve hands-on tasks such as installing solar panels, running electrical wiring, and assisting with system troubleshooting under the supervision of licensed electricians. You'll gain experience interpreting blueprints, adhering to safety procedures, and working with both rooftop and ground-mounted solar systems. Apprentices often rotate through different phases of installation and maintenance, offering a broad understanding of both residential and commercial projects.
