This role is well-suited for those seeking flexible work arrangements or supplemental income.

Accountants working weekend shifts often handle tasks such as processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports to ensure business continuity outside standard hours. They may also address urgent issues or provide support to teams that operate on weekends, such as retail or hospitality operations. The workflow is usually more independent, with fewer in-person meetings and a greater reliance on remote communication tools. This role requires strong self-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently to meet deadlines set for the following week.

Job description

JM Test Systems is a Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based test equipment company — calibration labs, electrical safety testing, equipment sales, rental, field services, and repair — serving industrial customers from more than a dozen locations across the country, from Louisiana to Wyoming to its newest hub in Wichita.

Backed by Kanbrick, a long-term investment partnership, JM Test is mid-way through a run toward a $250M revenue target by 2028 — growing its core calibration and onsite service lines, deepening concentrated industrial customer relationships, expanding geographically, and adding capability through acquisition. JM Test runs on the Kanbrick Business System, the operating playbook Kanbrick installs across its partner companies to build enduring businesses, brick by brick.

The Role

Close & Reporting

You own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across every JM Test location: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and GAAP-compliant financial statements the Controller and CFO can trust without re-checking.

Strategic Partnership

You go beyond the close itself, delivering variance analysis and executive-ready reporting that ties the numbers to what's actually happening across a dozen-plus locations and multiple business lines.

Controls, Compliance & Tax

You strengthen internal controls, keep the business audit-ready every day rather than just at year-end, and own multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax compliance as JM Test's geographic footprint grows.

Team & Systems

You lead and develop the AP Supervisor and staff accountants, and you're the one pushing Sage 100 and process improvements forward rather than waiting for someone else to modernize the function.

What Makes This Different

A role you build, not inherit

This is a newly created seat. The processes, the reporting cadence, even the shape of the job are still being defined, and you're the one defining them.

Multi-location scope from day one

You're not managing one entity's books. You're maintaining GL integrity and close discipline across a dozen-plus locations and several distinct business lines — calibration, safety testing, equipment sales, rental, field services — at the same time.

Real proximity to the CFO and Controller

Your variance analysis and reporting inform actual strategic and operational decisions, not just a year-end review.

What This Becomes

As JM Test scales toward its 2028 plan — more locations, more M&A integration, continued double-digit EBITDA growth — this seat has a clear path toward a Controller-level role with a broader mandate across the platform.

The trade: you won't get a finished playbook. What you get is the chance to write the one JM Test runs on for the next decade.

Compensation: up to $110,000 base.

Requirements

This role could be a natural next step for a Senior Accountant ready to take on broader ownership and leadership responsibilities, or a strong fit for a Controller or Assistant Controller from a smaller organization looking to bring their experience to a larger, multi-location environment.

Beyond background, you'll thrive here if you're curious enough to learn how JM Test actually works before recommending change. You build buy-in with department leaders rather than dictating from the finance seat. And you're comfortable stepping into a role that's still being shaped, rather than one with a finished manual.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Progressive accounting experience with ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ideally across multiple locations or entities
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
  • Experience leading and developing accounting staff (e.g., AP or staff accountants)
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting variance analysis and financial results to senior leadership

Preferred

  • CPA
  • Experience with Sage 100 or a similar mid-market ERP system
  • Multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax experience
  • Background as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Controller at a smaller or single-location organization

Benefits

  • Competitive salary — compensation up to $110,000 base
  • Medical, Dental & Vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and company holidays
  • A newly created seat with a clear path to a Controller-level role as JM Test scales
  • Direct, regular exposure to the Controller and CFO
  • Backed by Kanbrick, a long-term investor that supports operational excellence and growth
