Since its founding in 1970, Earth Day has mobilized over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect our planet. Our website serves as a central hub for campaigns, educational resources, events, advocacy initiatives, and donor engagement, with a library of more than 1,000 pages and posts accessed by users worldwide.

We are seeking an experienced WordPress Website Manager to oversee the performance, maintenance, security, and ongoing development of our website and digital infrastructure. This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on website management to support the organizationโ€™s mission and growth.

Position Overview

The EDO website plays a critical role in supporting global campaigns, educational outreach, advocacy initiatives, and fundraising efforts.

The WordPress Website Manager will be responsible for maintaining and improving a large-scale WordPress website, troubleshooting technical issues, implementing enhancements, supporting campaigns and organizational initiatives, and ensuring the website remains secure, fast, accessible, and search-engine friendly.

This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual who can manage both day-to-day website operations and longer-term technical improvements.

Key Responsibilities Website Maintenance & Technical Operations
  • Manage and maintain a large WordPress website with 1,000+ pages and posts.
  • Perform routine updates to WordPress core, themes, and plugins while ensuring site stability and compatibility.
  • Monitor website uptime, performance, and security.
  • Manage backups, security protocols, malware prevention, and recovery procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate with hosting and development partners to maintain site security, uptime, and performance.
  • Oversee database optimization and general site health.
  • Build and maintain landing pages and reusable content components within the organizationโ€™s WordPress environment.
  • Support integrations between the website and external platforms including CRM, donation, email marketing, advocacy, and event systems.
  • Collaborate with communications, fundraising, and campaign teams to launch new website features and pages.
Technical SEO & Site Performance
  • Monitor and manage technical SEO health using tools such as Google Search Console and GA4.
  • Support implementation of technical SEO best practices in coordination with external SEO consultants. This would include addressing crawl errors, indexing issues, broken links, redirects, and structured data issues.
Content & Asset Management
  • Help maintain clear site architecture, navigation, and user experience across a large content library.
  • Oversee organization and optimization of digital assets including images, PDFs, and video content.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance reviews to identify and resolve usability or formatting issues.
  • Ensure consistency in page layouts, templates, and web standards.
Analytics & Reporting
  • Manage Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and related tracking systems.
  • Set up new conversion tracking using GA4 and GTM.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve website performance and user experience.
Required Qualifications
  • 3โ€“5+ years of experience managing WordPress websites, preferably large or high-traffic sites.
  • Advanced knowledge of WordPress CMS, themes, and plugins.
  • Experience with website security, backups, uptime monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with Google Search Console, GA4, and GTM.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
Preferred (But Not Required) Qualifications
  • Experience managing websites with extensive content libraries (1,000+ pages/posts).
  • Understanding of environmental advocacy, nonprofit communications, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience with page builders and WordPress frameworks.
  • Experience integrating websites with CRM, donation, advocacy, or marketing automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with managed hosting platforms, CDN/performance services, DNS configuration, caching systems, and website infrastructure tools such as Cloudflare, Kinsta, or WP Engine.
