Job description

Summary of Job The City of Beloit Department of Public Works has an exciting career opportunity available in its Water Resources Division for motivated individuals to fill the position of Wastewater Operator I, II, or III. This vital role is responsible for the daily operation, repair, and maintenance of our water pollution control facilities, ensuring the safety and environmental health of our community. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing routine process control tests, diagnosing operational issues, and implementing effective corrective actions.

Whether you are an entry-level candidate with a strong mechanical aptitude or a seasoned technical expert, this position offers a dynamic and stable environment where your work directly impacts the local ecosystem. We actively invest in our team by providing training and offering a pathway to advance your skills and certifications to progress from an Operator I up to an Operator III. This position is also eligible for certification pay.

This position is a 365-day operation and has a rotating schedule- 4 days on, 4 days off, 8 days on, 5 days off. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Wastewater Operator I 1. High School Diploma or equivalent 2.

A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. 3. Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" tank vehicle endorsement or the ability to obtain within (6) six months of hire.

4. Experience in industrial equipment maintenance and municipal wastewater preferred. 5.

Certification as a Wisconsin Wastewater Operator-In-Training (OIT) and (1) one additional subclass from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or the ability to obtain certifications within 12 months of hire. Approved Wisconsin DNR subclasses relevant to this position include: A1- Suspended Growth Processes, B- Solids Separation, C- Biological Solids/Sludge Handling, Processing, and Reuse, D- Disinfection, and P-Total Phosphorus. 6.

Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered. Wastewater Operator II 1. High School Diploma or equivalent 2.

A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. 3. Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" tank vehicle endorsement or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

4. A minimum of one (1) year of responsible work experience in municipal wastewater required. 5.

Certification as a Wisconsin Wastewater Basic Operator from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in at least two (2) approved subclasses required. Approved Wisconsin DNR subclasses relevant to this position include: A1- Suspended Growth Processes, B- Solids Separation, C- Biological Solids/Sludge Handling, Processing, and Reuse, D- Disinfection, and P-Total Phosphorus. 6.

Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered. Wastewater Operator III 1. High School Diploma or equivalent 2.

A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. 3. A minimum of four (4) years of responsible work experience in municipal wastewater required.

4. Certification as a Wisconsin Wastewater Advanced Operator, in all designated subclasses, from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) required. Designated Wisconsin DNR subclasses include: A1- Suspended Growth Processes, B- Solids Separation, C- Biological Solids/Sludge Handling, Processing, and Reuse, D- Disinfection, and P-Total Phosphorus.

5. Certification as a Wisconsin Wastewater Operator-In-Training (OIT) from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in subclasses L- Laboratory and SS- Sanitary Sewer or the ability to obtain within (12) twelve months of hire. 6.
