Position Summary:
Help shape mission outcomes through operational analysis, modeling, simulation, and wargaming. UDRI invites qualified applicants to apply for our Operational & Mission Engineering Analyst opening!
The Operational & Mission Engineering Analyst supports mission focused operational analysis, scenario development, modeling & simulation (M&S) activities, sustainment/logistics considerations, and wargaming workflows. The analyst prepares scenario inputs, performs structured analysis, coordinates with technical contributors, and delivers clear mission insights to government customers.
Candidates may come from operations research, modeling & simulation, systems engineering, operations/intelligence analysis, wargaming, or related analytical fields. Individuals without prior simulation experience but with strong analytical or operational backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The role emphasizes teamwork, analytical rigor, and effective customer and stakeholder engagement.
Minimum Qualifications:
R2
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations research, applied mathematics, analytics, physics, computer/data science, systems engineering, operations/intel analysis, or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in analytical, operational, or M&S environments.
• Ability to communicate professionally with stakeholders or cross functional teams.
• Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and have an active Secret clearance.
R3 (R2 Plus the following)
8+ years of directly related experience.
• Proven ability to interface directly with government customers or senior stakeholders.
• Experience providing technical direction or guiding small teams.
• Ability to independently solve complex analytical or operational problems.
• Strong communication skills, including delivery of mission focused insights to external audiences.
• Active Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
Mission & Operational Analysis
• Experience supporting mission engineering, operational analysis, or wargaming.
• Familiarity with mission flows, objectives, measures, or mission threads.
Modeling & Simulation Tools
• Exposure to M&S environments such as AFSIM, Command PE, STK, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
• Experience preparing scenario or input materials for modeling/simulation or wargaming workflows.
Analytical & Technical Skills
• Experience applying OR/statistical or structured analytical methods.
• Experience developing reproducible analytical workflows or reporting pipelines.
• Comfort using Python, R, MATLAB, or similar analytical tools.
Customer Engagement & Communication
• Proven ability to build trusted relationships with government customers or operational stakeholders.
• Experience preparing or delivering structured technical briefings.
• Ability to synthesize and communicate complex analytical inputs clearly.
Leadership (R3 emphasis)
• Experience guiding technical contributors or aligning small teams.
• Experience representing an organization in technical exchanges or sponsor engagements.
