Job description

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the manager of site services and will work closely with the Avantor's Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Hourly Rate: $24 - $28
Location: Oceanside, CA

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7 am - 3:30 pm

What we're looking for

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or undergraduate degree in a business or science-related field is preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years in customer services/purchasing/or account management
  • Customer service, inventory replenishment, or material handling experience within a warehouse or laboratory
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in chemical handling.
  • Able to lift 50lbs. as required
  • 2+ years of applicable experience in inventory control, procurement, or related operations.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Basic purchasing and inventory knowledge
  • Proficiency in inventory and procurement systems such as SAP, Citrix, VWR+, ChemSW, and other customer-specific platforms.
  • Solid understanding and experience in either shipping, inventory, or purchasing.
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills: displays a professional can-do attitude.
  • High regard for safety, quality, and adherence to protocols, policies, and procedures
  • Self-manage and self-motivate, forward-thinking.
  • Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Conform to all company and customer requirements for background checks, health and safety issues, and security clearances
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with both customers and various departments within VWR
  • Knowledge of Information Access and ERP Systems
  • Ability to make sound business decisions with limited consultation with manager

Avantor's Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:

  • Manage inventory operations including tracking slow-moving and obsolete items, conducting cycle counts, and supporting annual physical inventories.
  • Process inventory requests and coordinate material movement, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide daily customer service support, maintaining clear communication with clients regarding inventory status and needs.
  • Perform purchasing-related tasks such as managing backorders, expediting shipments, coordinating direct factory and third-party orders, and resolving invoice or pricing discrepancies.
  • Handle order entry, maintain performance metrics, and track cost-saving initiatives.
  • Coordinate shipping activities, including packaging, documentation, and data entry into customer systems; operate basic warehouse equipment and perform equipment inspections.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Key Performance Indices.
  • Safely manage hazardous materials and ensure compliance with storage regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison with customer contacts, including purchasing directors, facility managers, and plant leadership.
  • Utilize multiple systems (e.g., SAP, Citrix, Avantor Inventory Management Systems, and customer-specific platforms) to fulfill job duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$45,000.00 - $72,450.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
