Job description

Sol Systems is seeking a Vice President of Infrastructure to lead its infrastructure business, including commercial and performance asset management, commodity management, and the overall operations of its infrastructure business. Sol Systems develops, builds and operates clean energy infrastructure throughout the United States. This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sol Systems.
The VP of Infrastructure is a new role for the Company, focused on optimizing and protecting its expanding fleet of solar and storage assets. This person will oversee Sol's existing Asset Management and Market Intelligence teams.
The role will be charged with evolving Sol's Asset Management team from one historically focused on third party investment portfolios to an increasing focus on Sol's own operating portfolio of clean energy infrastructure. The asset management team focuses on technical and financial performance, insurance procurement, and compliance activities associated with the assets that Sol manages, as well as assuming overall responsibility for efficiently operating the portfolio.
The role will also be charged with managing Sol's Market Intelligence Team, which focuses on managing merchant exposure in the market. This includes working with partners to manage day-ahead and real-time management of electricity and the optimization and sale of capacity, ancillary and other products associated with infrastructure assets.

Founded in 2008, the company deploys renewable energy infrastructure across the United States, with a specific focus on ensuring that these projects have a positive economic impact on the communities in which they operate. The company has financed and developed billions of solar energy assets to date.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Management and oversight of the Asset Management and Market Intelligence teams
  • Manage the dispatch of a clean energy fleet of assets
  • Support the future development of new generating assets
  • Optimize the profitability of Sol's fleet using available data to determine whether to bid assets into the day ahead or real time energy market
  • Formulate strategies on how to manage basis and congestion risk in the portfolio
  • Establish a process for monetizing uncontracted revenue streams, including capacity and ancillary services
  • Interface with Sol Systems' investor clients to resolve issues and report on investment performance
  • Support the asset management team on major issues including contractual disputes, investor approvals, major actions relating to the portfolios, insurance renewals, and risk assessment
  • Proactively identify potential risks and take action to mitigate negative financial impacts
  • Oversight of team's compliance activities with regulatory groups and financing counterparties
  • Optimizing the cost structure across all assets under management

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in finance, economics, business, or engineering. Master's degree in a related field preferred
  • Ten or more years of experience in asset management, energy, or project finance
  • Experience in managing utility scale solar assets
  • Experience dispatching and optimizing a fleet of solar assets
  • Proven track record in developing metrics to track unit performance
  • Familiarity with NERC and FERC compliance obligations for generating assets
  • Experience managing a team
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to comprehend, simplify and summarize complex financial and technical issues, both in writing and verbally
  • Experience with financial modeling and financial reporting
  • Ability to organize and manage work flows across different teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Location & Hours: This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
Commitment & Compensation: The base salary for this role is between $225,000 and $275,000 annually, depending on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position. In addition, Sol Systems provides health insurance, retirement benefits, partial gym reimbursement, education benefits, parental leave, paid vacation, sick and federal holidays, and the opportunity to work in a unique and dynamic environment.
