The Details:

We are seeking a driven, insightful, and collaborative VP, Reinsurance to support and further Palomar’s growth as it expands and diversifies its business. As VP, Reinsurance, you will report directly to EVP, Ceded Reinsurance and will work closely with senior leaders of the Risk Management, Underwriting, Actuarial and Programs teams to lead and execute various reinsurance placements in alignment with the risk transfer objectives of the company. Successful candidates will be those who can navigate market dynamics, foster strong relationships, and apply a strategic framework to the assessment of reinsurance needs and priorities. The ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a consultative and collaborative manner is critical to the role.


What will you do? (Job Duties)

· Collaborate with various leaders and stakeholders in the analysis, marketing, placement and administration of multiple reinsurance treaties that achieve the company’s risk transfer objectives for individual lines of business and across the portfolio

· Oversee the buying process of risk transfer solutions consisting of pro rata and excess of loss reinsurance treaties for both property and casualty lines of business. Some treaties will be program specific and others will cover a broader grouping of subject business

· Consult with the company’s Program & Fronting division and Actuarial leads regarding program evaluation, development and enhancement of program-specific reinsurance placements

· Coordinate with Reinsurance, Risk Management, Finance and Operations teams to ensure reinsurance programs are appropriately integrated with the company’s operations and meet company objectives

· Develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers and underwriters

Requirements:

What we are looking for: (Experience)

· A bachelor’s degree or graduate degree required

· 5+ years of professional experience in the insurance industry, with strong leadership potential and business relationship skills to build trust and respect

· Has experience leading reinsurance program design, analysis, placement, and execution specifically across various Casualty segments

· Manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently with effective time management skills to meet fixed deadlines

· Strong collaboration skills to ensure effective alignment among diverse teams, including appointed reinsurance broking teams

· Excellent financial and reinsurance coverage acumen

· Executive presence and ability to communicate with, influence, and manage stakeholders, including C-level executives

· Highly developed analytical, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills with keen attention to detail

· 25% travel

Pay Range: $170,000-$255,000

The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and qualifications, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
