Job description

Join the Allen County Public Library's New Haven Branch as a Part-Time Branch Assistant. Located in New Haven, Indiana, this onsite position allows you to support your community and provides the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that values teamwork and inclusion. The position is 28 hours per week and starting pay is $14.05-16.00, depending on experience.

Desired schedule
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, rotates with Friday every three weeks

Day to day as a Branch Assistant

As a Branch Assistant, you'll help our library run smoothly by connecting patrons with materials, answers, and a welcoming experience. This role exists to keep service moving-especially when circulation and holds become busy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Checking items in and out
  • Helping customers place and pick up requested items
  • Watching for returned materials that need follow-up, 
  • Assisting patrons with new or replacement library cards
  • Support customers as they use everyday technology and library systems
Qualifications:
  • Friendly, people-first customer service and clear communication
  • Comfort using computers, standard office equipment, and library software
  • Ability to follow procedures carefully and protect patron confidentiality
  • Team-minded, tactful, and professional in a public setting
