About the Position: The City of San Bernardino is seeking service-focused, self-motivated individuals to fill two full-time Library Assistant vacancies within the Library Department's Animakerspace Program. This entry-level position performs routine technical, clerical, and customer service duties in support of library operations.

Employees assigned to the Literacy Division will primarily support Animakerspace programming and literacy services, including instructional classes, group visits, equipment demonstrations, volunteer coordination, and community outreach. The position requires the ability to learn and apply a variety of library procedures, guidelines, machinery, and software. What You'll Be Doing Here The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is creative, dependable, and service-oriented, with strong communication and organizational skills.

They enjoy working with people of all ages and are comfortable learning and demonstrating Animakerspace equipment, animatronics, and software. The successful candidate will work well independently and collaboratively, provide excellent customer service, and enthusiastically support library programs, group visits, and community outreach. A Day in the Life: A typical day may include preparing and supporting instructional classes, assisting patrons with Animakerspace equipment, coordinating group visits, and overseeing volunteers.

The Library Assistant will also assist with literacy programs, outreach activities, and general library services while maintaining a welcoming, safe, and organized environment. Animakerspace Assignments Include: Coordinate instructional classes and regular programs for all ages utilizing the Animakerspace machines, animatronics, and supplies. Assist in coordinating Animakerspace group visits for K-12th grade students and adults.

Train and oversee Animakerspace part-time staff and volunteers on a variety of machinery and software. Participate in outreach activities and library and Literacy Division services. Perform other duties as assigned.

The Typical Animakerspace Schedule Is: Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm or 11:30 am to 8:00 pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm Library is closed Fridays and Sundays. Full-time Library Assistants work five eight-hour shifts per week, including one evening shift and Saturdays. The schedule is subject to change based on Animakerspace programming, outreach, tours, or other library needs.

What You Need to Qualify Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED; and two (2) years of progressively responsible paid or volunteer library experience or other customer service or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment: A valid California driver's license is required.

Desirable Qualifications: 1 year or more of program experience and 2 years or more of customer service experience OR 3 years or more of library experience. Physical Requirements: Employees work in a library setting where, the noise level is usually quiet. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to manipulate, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment, reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
