Job description
This role coordinates the Volunteer Center’s daily activities, volunteer groups, records and safe work practices. In this role, you will help create organized volunteer experiences that move food through the Regional Food Bank and serve neighbors across Oklahoma. You will prepare activities, train volunteers, track participation and keep work areas ready for each group. You will represent the organization with courtesy, answer practical questions and connect volunteers with ways to remain involved. You will follow food safety, equipment and inspection requirements so volunteer work is safe, accurate and dependable. You can expect a mix of coordination, hands-on preparation, communication, recordkeeping, training and problem-solving. Success in the position comes from dependable follow-through, clear direction, safe work habits and respectful service to every volunteer.
A Day in the LifeThe essential functions described below represent the primary responsibilities of this role and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.   Representing and Engaging with Volunteers:- Represent the Regional Food Bank with professionalism and courtesy to volunteer.
- Build positive relationships with volunteers to encourage meaningful participation in the Regional Food Bank’s mission.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the mission so volunteers understand how their work serves neighbors.
- Explain opportunities at program sites and options for food or financial donations so volunteers can remain involved.
- Greet volunteer groups promptly so participants feel welcomed and understand where to begin.
- Ensure cleanliness in volunteer work areas (break rooms, repack rooms and restrooms) to protect health and safety.
- Prepare and stock necessary supplies so volunteer activities begin on time and continue without avoidable interruptions.
- Complete daily and weekly AIB cleaning tasks to meet sanitation requirements and maintain inspection readiness.
- Adhere to food safety standards, including AIB best practices to protect products, volunteers, employees and neighbors.
- Obtain and maintain a SERV safe food handlers permit to demonstrate required knowledge of safe food handling.
- Serve as Safety Advocate by completing monthly AIB, inventory and safety cross inspections to identify and report concerns.
- Operate forklifts and other equipment to move pallets safely and position productions within restricted areas.
- Complete all assigned Forklift Operator duties and requirements to maintain safe, reliable warehouse operations.
- Remain alert during every task and prioritize safety to reduce injuries, product damage and equipment incidents.
- Set up daily volunteer activities with all required materials so each group can begin prepared and remain productive.
- Train and supervise volunteer groups so participants understand their tasks, quality requirements and safety expectations.
- Remain on the floor during volunteer shifts to provide direction, monitor work and address concerns.
- Conduct in-person orientations for court-mandated community service participants so requirements and expectations are clearly understood.
- Clean and prepare workstations and break rooms so each incoming volunteer group enters an orderly environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency when setting up and teaching every volunteer project to provide consistent instructions and accurate work.
- Train in one of four core areas: Inventory, Food Safety, Protein Packaging Center or Internal Special Events.
- Complete customer service training to provide volunteers with consistent, respectful and practical assistance.
- Learn Volunteer Center talking points, so mission information remains accurate and consistent during volunteer interactions.
- Complete public speaking training to discuss the mission clearly and respectfully with volunteer groups.
- Record product activity and volunteer participation accurately so managers can monitor output and maintain reliable program records.
- Provide volunteer activity feedback to Volunteer Center managers so concerns, successes and improvement opportunities receive appropriate review.
- Update accurate figures on the Safety Spotlight Gemba Board so current safety information remains visible and useful.
- Maintain positive working relationships across departments so volunteer activities remain coordinated with operational needs.
- Help design volunteer tasks that improve productivity and efficiency while keeping instructions practical, safe and appropriate.
- Participate in process improvement teams and recommend practical solutions when changes could improve volunteer activities or operations.
- Work within a team-based environment to complete responsibilities consistently and respond to changing daily needs.
- Maintain open availability throughout the week so scheduled volunteer activities have appropriate staffing.

- Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets organizational standards.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Ability to complete a background check, motor vehicle record review, drug screening and physical assessment as required for the role.
- An open and flexible schedule with availability including evenings and weekends.
This position is classified as Safety Sensitive under Oklahoma law. Employees in safety-sensitive roles perform duties where even a momentary lapse in concentration could result in injury to themselves, others or cause environmental harm. Auditory attention to recognize signals, alarms, and spoken instructions that serve as key safety and maintenance indicators. Exchange information clearly in person or via devices in dynamic environments, including those with background noise. Maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods to ensure safety and compliance during driving and equipment operation. Follow safety protocols, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required by Environmental, Health and Safety policies.
Work EnvironmentSome exposure to outdoor conditions and extreme temperature changes (summer heat, winter cold, rain, sleet, snow). Possible exposure to dust, chemicals, gases, fumes, smoke, noise and vibrations.
Work typically performed in industrial environments (indoor or outdoor) with various hazards and noise levels. This role does not involve regular travel. Occasional isolated trips may occur for meetings, training or assignments, typically allowing return home nightly. May require scheduled participation in a rotating on call program and, on a limited and infrequent basis, response to unscheduled operational needs. Work outside of the employee’s regular schedule may be required at times based on business necessity and must be documented in accordance with established scheduling and timekeeping practices. All hours worked will be recorded and compensated in compliance with applicable federal, state and local wage and hour laws.
