At Hospice of the Piedmont, every volunteer hour helps bring comfort, dignity, and compassionate care to our community.

As our Volunteer Coordinator, you will cultivate a dedicated network of volunteers who bring comfort, companionship, and support to those we serve. Through recruitment, training, recognition, and ongoing engagement, you will help ensure volunteers feel valued, prepared, and inspired to make a lasting impact every day.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for our Veterans Services Program; coordinating veteran pinning's, engaging in community veteran events, recruitment of veteran volunteers, day to day support for our veteran volunteers, managing and tracking data and records.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of records and personnel files for all volunteers and paid contractors.
  • Involved with the management of weekly Check-In Caller program.
  • Support for matching patient requests with volunteers, processing volunteer requests and assignments, and inputting volunteer hours into data system.
  • Assists with recruitment, selection, supervision, and retention of assigned volunteers.
  • Assists with oversight and evaluation of assignments of volunteers through direct observation (joint home visits), review of documentation and any feedback received concerning a volunteer's performance.
  • Assists with training and continuing education for all volunteers and paid contractors.
  • Assures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, Medicare regulations and established personnel policies and procedures. Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, volunteers, and the organization.
  • Available by phone or in person to support volunteers as well as staff with patient/assignment questions or concerns, and navigation of online volunteer management system.
  • Assist with Volunteer Appreciation, monthly Remembrances, and other department and HOP events.

Essential Skills to Success:
  • Self-motivated; demonstrates initiative and anticipates needs.
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreading, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized; able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively. Advanced Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel), ability to learn EMR and database systems.

Qualifications:
  • Experience working with veterans, veteran service organizations, or military communities strongly preferred. Knowledge of military culture, veteran issues, and veteran support programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience (volunteer management, adult education, communications, humanities, human resources, community development).
  • Experience in the supervision of administrative support activities with hospice or health care organization preferred.
  • Driver's license, personal automobile and current automobile liability insurance.

Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to use phone and computer efficiently
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, families, volunteers, and staff, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Extended duration of computer-based, sedentary work
  • Regular travel is required within Hospice of the Piedmont's service area for volunteer supervisions, meetings, and trainings.
