Job description

Summary:
The Health Coaching & Wellness Coordinator at Maryville University is a pivotal role that integrates evidence-based health coaching, wellness program development, and educational outreach within the framework of the MaryWELL initiative. This position supports the holistic well-being of the Maryville community, fosters interdepartmental collaboration, and mentors future exercise science professionals.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a detailed analysis of corporate wellness programs at similar-sized institutions; academic and public. Provide a synopsis of the data
  • Develop a system/protocol for members of the Maryville community to volunteer for and participate in health coaching
  • Schedule meetings with members of the Maryville community to discuss health and wellness goals (2nd semester)
  • Schedule and conduct health and wellness testing in the Exercise Science lab (tests aligned with client's goals)
  • Partner with Maryville's Health & Wellness Department and Human Resources to present health education material (possibly at a Lunch & Learn session)
  • Conduct regular meetings with clients (in-person and/or virtual); discuss test/re-test results, provide accountability, educate (2nd semester)
  • Provide a safe, supportive environment for clients to explore their goals and intentions, and empower clients to take their health into their own hands (2nd semester)
  • Create fun, challenging health/wellness/fitness-inspired competitions or events
  • Present a guest lecture to EXSC 110: Intro to Exercise Science courses; career talk - health coaching
  • Mentor younger exercise science students interested in health coaching

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn; Growth mindset
  • An understanding of key concepts in exercise science; behavioral change theory, goal setting, exercise testing and prescription, exercise physiology...and a base-level of understanding in how to apply it to a live client.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Preferred major: Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Pre-OT, Occupational Therapy and Nursing
  • Courses taken: EXSC-210, EXSC 309, EXSC 310, EXSC 410
  • Awareness of motivational interviewing

Skills Required:
  • Ability to build buy-in/gain trust
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Position Pay: $16.25/hr
Hours per week: 10 hrs
Start Date: 8/24/2026
End Date: 4/25/2027
