Job description

Description

Why Farallon?

As a 100% employee-owned firm, Farallon is built on a shared purpose and long-term commitment. Our people are the reason clients trust us with their most complex environmental challenges-from high-stakes remediation projects to regulatory negotiations that shape communities. When you join Farallon, you join a team of scientists and engineers who take pride in delivering technically sound, defensible, and practical solutions.

You'll work alongside industry leaders who are shaping the future of environmental consulting across the West Coast. Your expertise will directly influence project outcomes, client relationships, and the continued growth of our employee-owned firm.

The Role: Engineering Solutions That Last

As a Senior Environmental/Remediation Engineer, you will be a strategic leader and technical expert guiding complex environmental projects from investigation through cleanup and closure. You'll collaborate across disciplines, mentor emerging engineers, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients navigating regulatory, technical, and business challenges.

This is a role for someone who thrives on solving difficult problems, building strong client relationships, and elevating the quality of engineering practice across a team. This full-time, exempt, hybrid role may be based in either our Seattle or Bellevue, Washington locations.

Lead & Innovate

  • Originate and grow client relationships while identifying new opportunities for Farallon's core practice areas.
  • Develop cleanup strategies grounded in strong conceptual site models and regulatory insight.
  • Oversee feasibility studies, remedial design, pilot testing, and engineering documentation.

Drive Projects Forward

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams through site assessment, investigation, remedy selection, construction, and closure.
  • Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and quality across multiple complex projects.
  • Ensure technical excellence in deliverables including RI/FS reports, CAPs, EDRs, and CARs.

Elevate the Team

  • Mentor and coach staff engineers and scientists.
  • Support business development initiatives across the firm.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Other Duties

This job description is not designed to cover every activity, duty, or responsibility required of the role. Responsibilities may evolve at any time with or without notice.

Requirements

What You'll Bring

  • Technical Expertise
  • ABET-accredited BS or MS in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington.
  • 12+ years of environmental consulting experience, including investigation, remediation system design, and implementation.
  • Strong engineering design capabilities across multiple contaminants and remedial technologies (e.g., air sparge, SVE, MPE, in-situ treatment, excavation, engineering controls).
  • Experience developing remedial cost estimates and evaluating cleanup alternatives.
  • Working knowledge of MTCA, RCRA, CERCLA, and related guidance.
  • Permitting experience (PSCAA, CSGP, NPDES, local jurisdictions).
  • Experience communicating with Local, State, and Federal regulators.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of proposals and technical reports.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams on business development strategies.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience developing new clients or practice areas.
  • Familiarity with GIS, data management, and analytical methods. Experience with VCP cleanups, PFAS, air compliance, sediment remediation, or stormwater permitting.

Owner-Level Benefits

We believe taking care of our people is the best way to take care of our clients and Farallon is proud to offer comprehensive benefits to meet the diverse needs of our employees.

  • Ownership: Participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  • Health & Wellness: 100% employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision for employees.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with up to a 4% company match.
  • Time Off: Flexible vacation (10-30 days), 9 paid holidays, and a dedicated paid day for volunteering.
  • Growth: Tuition reimbursement and paid renewals for professional certifications.

Additional benefits may include performance-based incentives, life, AD&D, disability benefits, parental leave, voluntary benefits, flexible work options, employee assistance program, spot bonus, charitable donation matches, paid parking or transit, employee referral programs, service recognition awards and a one-time reimbursement for home office setup.

Pay Range

Our best estimate of the base salary range for this position, located in Seattle or Bellevue, Washington, is $120,000 - $160,000 annually. Employees are eligible for an annual cash bonus based on firm and individual performance. Actual compensation will depend on experience, education, and internal equity. Salary ranges are reviewed annually.
