Job description

The Senior Specialist will be responsible for providing waste and chemical related technical and regulatory support across the company, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The Senior Specialist will support corporate policy, regulatory reporting, environmental data quality control and data analytics, provide guidance to company personnel, minimize environmental risks, maintain environmental excellence and ensure continued improvement.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related work experience or

Relevant Work Experience
  • 3 to 5 years experience with federal and state regulations related to waste and chemical management requirements, required.
  • 3 to 5 years proven ability to apply regulatory and industry expertise to solve complex waste and chemical compliance challenges, with experience improving corporate policies and procedures, required.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in navigating complex regulatory framework to effectively manage waste and chemicals for utilities, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals or similar industry, required.
  • 3 to 5 years experience working in environmental setting with focus on science, engineering, chemistry, and/or waste management, required.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and/or an ability to quickly become proficient with software and systems including Microsoft Office, Power BI, IBM Maximo, CRS, and RCRAinfo e-Manifest, required.

Core Responsibilities
  • Maintain, review, and improve corporate procedures, specifications, training materials and communications related to waste management.
  • Support integration of sustainability into waste management practices, support waste and toxicity reduction strategies.
  • Evaluate regulatory changes and coordinate company compliance and advocacy strategies.
  • Strong technical understanding of applicable regulations, waste characterization, sampling, risk evaluation, and waste management practices, with the ability to assess complex site conditions and develop compliant technical solutions.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies, respond to inquiries, and participate in inspections.
  • Provide guidance to EHS representatives and operations teams on federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Support initiatives to identify environmental risks and work with operational organizations on mitigation.
  • Support accurate waste-related reports and authorization renewals to regulatory agencies.
  • Perform quality assurance on waste data systems, conduct trend analysis, and maintain dashboards.
  • Review environmental characteristics of chemical products and vendor bid packages for compliance.
  • Support TSDF liability management program, review audits, and assess environmental risks.
  • Ensure adherence to company EHS programs, confidentiality, and participate in System Emergency Assignments as required.
