Job Summary

The Senior Manager of Benefits will play a critical, hands-on leadership role in stabilizing and managing Inter-Con’s benefits function. This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration, team leadership, and operational execution of all benefits programs while helping rebuild processes, improve accuracy, and ensure compliance.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, can step into ambiguity, and is comfortable acting as a player-coach and problem solver to address immediate operational gaps.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Operations & Administration

  • Oversee daily administration of all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), and voluntary benefits
  • Ensure accurate benefits billing, reconciliation, and payroll deductions, resolving discrepancies and preventing future errors
  • Manage and support open enrollment processes, including system readiness and employee communications
  • Oversee case management and employee inquiries, ensuring timely resolution and adherence to SLAs

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly manage and develop a team of benefits professionals (including U.S.-based staff and offshore support)
  • Provide guidance, training, and decision-making support to a team that currently requires stronger leadership and structure
  • Establish clear roles, accountability, and performance expectations
  • Act as an escalation point for complex benefits issues

Process Improvement & Execution

  • Identify gaps in current workflows and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Redesign and improve processes related to benefits administration, case management, and communications
  • Drive operational efficiency and accuracy through better systems usage and documentation
  • Partner with leadership to support broader process reengineering efforts within the benefits function

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and 1095-C reporting
  • Support audits, filings (including 5500), and internal compliance reviews
  • Maintain accurate documentation and controls to minimize organizational risk

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators to resolve issues and improve service delivery
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Payroll, and Finance to ensure alignment on benefits processes and data
  • Support union-related benefits administration and Health & Welfare plans as applicable

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration
  • 3+ years of experience leading or mentoring a team
  • Strong knowledge of ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and benefits compliance requirements
  • Hands-on experience with benefits billing, reconciliation, and deductions
  • Experience supporting large employee populations (2,000+ on medical plans preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound, practical decisions
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with HRIS systems

Preferred

  • Experience in union environments or Health & Welfare plans
  • Experience in high-volume industries such as staffing, security, or labor-intensive workforces
  • Exposure to benefits process improvement or system implementations
  • Relevant certifications (CEBS, CBP, SHRM, or similar)
