Job description

Nature of Work Reserve Officer means an individual whose services are utilized by the Police Department to provide assistance in uniform at traffic/pedestrian control, community engagement events, and crime scene protection. Reserve Officers acting in a patrol capacity will respond to calls for Police Service that do not require the presence of a sworn officer such as animal control, motorist assists, etc. The Richfield Police Reserve Unit are volunteers that represent the department in a positive manner by assisting the sworn members of the department and engaging with the public.

Job Duties New Reserve Officers must complete a twelve (12) month probation period. During the probation period a Reserve Officer will be given opportunities to prove that they have learned the necessary skills to aid in self-protection. They also must exhibit the skills necessary to assist a licensed Police Officer in the course of their duties.

Reserve Officers must demonstrate they have gained the necessary professional manners and maturity to reflect favorably on the Richfield Police Department. COMPETENCIES Have a service-oriented attitude. Be courteous and tactful when dealing with Police Officers and the general public both in person and on the phone.

Have the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Have the ability to maintain composure under pressure. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Be at least 21 years of age. Be a citizen of the United States. Must not have a felony or gross misdemeanor or misdemeanor conviction.

Possess a valid Class D driver's license and a good driving record. Be a resident of Hennepin County. Good physical health - provide a physician's statement if requested.

Submit to an oral interview, background check and fingerprinting. Successfully complete all training provided. Minimum of a 2 year commitment to the Richfield Reserve Unit and must volunteer 10 hours per month.

Qualifications Established links with the City, such as residency, workplace, place of worship, volunteering, etc. Supplemental Information Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for considerable physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, pushing, pulling, bending, stopping, squatting, and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
