Job description

A volunteer application and background check are required when:
  • A volunteer is driving a district vehicle or personal vehicle with or without transporting students for any sport or activity. *We will also need a copy of the volunteer's driver's license at the HPS Central Office prior to the event. Additionally, transportation staff will need to schedule a mandatory 2-hour instructional session.
  • A volunteer is accompanying students on an activity or trip and will be solely responsible for a small group of students, e.g., chaperone for an overnight trip.
  • A volunteer is present in the classroom/attendance center to work directly with students.
  • A volunteer is helping with a sport or activity (not contracted).
  • A volunteer is coaching or acting as a sponsor for an activity with consistent duties through the season (contracted, and must be approved by the board of education)

A volunteer application and background check is at administrative discretion for volunteers or chaperones at a school sport or activity when there are teachers, coaches, or other district personnel present, e.g., day field trip, school carnival, concessions, etc.
There is no cost to the volunteer for the background check.
*All volunteers are subject to administrative and head coach, designated sponsor, or classroom teacher approval. Volunteers must abide by established district policies and procedures.
