What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Visual Treatment Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visual Treatment Designer, you need strong graphic design skills, storytelling ability, and a solid understanding of visual composition, typically supported by a degree in design, film, or a related field. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and presentation tools like PowerPoint or Keynote is essential. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help you convey complex ideas and collaborate with clients or production teams. These skills ensure you can translate concepts into compelling visual narratives that align with project goals and client expectations.

How does a Visual Treatment Designer typically collaborate with directors and other creative team members during the pre-production phase?

As a Visual Treatment Designer, you’ll work closely with directors, producers, and art directors to translate script ideas into compelling visual concepts. During pre-production, you’ll participate in creative meetings, gather reference materials, and develop mood boards or style frames that help set the visual tone for the project. Clear communication and openness to feedback are essential, as your designs often evolve through collaboration. This role requires adaptability and the ability to synthesize multiple creative inputs into a cohesive visual narrative.

What is a Visual Treatment Designer?

A Visual Treatment Designer is a creative professional who develops the visual style, mood, and aesthetic direction for projects such as films, commercials, or multimedia presentations. They create visual treatments, which are documents or presentations that combine images, color palettes, and design elements to communicate how a project will look and feel. These treatments help directors, producers, and clients visualize the final product before actual production begins. Visual Treatment Designers often collaborate closely with directors, cinematographers, and art departments to ensure a cohesive vision throughout the project.

Visual Lease
As the centralized system of record for all lease-related financial, operational, and legal data, Visual Lease, a CoStar Group company, is purpose-built to support every team involved in managing a company's leased and owned assets. Informed by nearly three decades of experience, our platform integrates lease management, lease accounting, and sustainability reporting, enabling organizations to save time, mitigate risks, reduce costs, and support sustainability initiatives. Our award-winning software is used by 1,500+ organizations to manage more than 1 million real estate, equipment, and other leased asset records globally.
About the Role:
With the acquisition of Visual Lease, CoStar Real Estate Manager is in the beginning phases of an exciting journey of discovering how the two solutions will integrate. We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our growing team and be a valuable contributor in building something new. In this role, you will work closely with the product team through design iteration by incorporating internal and external stakeholder feedback.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce designs with input from the product team to achieve the desired customer experience. Outputs include user flows, high fidelity wireframes, detailed mockups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Act as the user advocate in cross functional teams with product managers, architects, and software engineers.
  • Conduct or participate in user research and usability testing to validate assumptions, uncover insights, and inform design decisions.
  • Create intuitive products that elevate the user experience using current best practices, design thinking, and user research.
  • Collaborate with product managers, senior leaders, and other stakeholders to incorporate specific design requirements, visual treatment, and content structure.
  • Manage multiple concurrent design projects at various levels of concept through production.
  • Contribute to and help evolve design systems, patterns, and documentation.
  • Provide informal mentoring, feedback, and design critique to improve team practices and outputs.
  • Measure the success of design solutions through adoption, usability, and customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not-for-profit, in person, university or college.
  • 5+ years relevant design experience working with a product team.
  • Experience working on the design and creation of complex workflows, atomic based design systems, and/or deep websites.
  • The ability to conduct, interpret, and act on user research.
  • Proficiency designing and prototyping in Figma.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to understand and clarify requirements, design decisions, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Track record of commitment to prior employers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with workflow design principles/concepts.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and financial visualization concepts.
  • Understanding of data model concept as it pertains to a specific business domain.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Proactive self-starter who loves simplifying complex problems.
