Job Overview

The VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Specialist plays a critical role in preconstruction and construction. The specialist acts as a conduit between stakeholder teams, facilitates the use of AEC 2D drafting and 3D modeling software, and creates coordinated, constructionโ€‘ready architectural and engineering models. Strong communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing the VDC program and execute the Building Information Modeling (BIM) plan on new projects.
  • Resolve BIMโ€‘related issues in contract documents and ensure compliance with building codes and standards.
  • Set up projects in systems such as Revit, BIM360, and Navisworks; detect clashes; and maintain updated RFI/observations.
  • Conduct weekly reviews with project teams, track action items, and deliver coordinated federated models for meetings.
  • Collaborate with design teams, trade partners, and subcontractors to deliver 3D models within scheduled timeframes, resolve design conflicts, and address RFIโ€™s before 100% construction documents.
  • Lead weekly BIM coordination and design coordination meetings, prepare documents, maintain meeting minutes, and track action items.
  • Define and manage Level of Detail (LOD) requirements throughout design progression.
  • Support the transition from design to construction coordination, including preparing subcontractor onboarding, reviewing BIM execution plans with inโ€‘house BIM teams, and coordinating schedules.
  • Prepare models for field operations, coordinate and resolve field issues, and update models with design and field changes during construction.
  • Provide VDC support to field teams, assist with technology use, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for the VDC group.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in architecture, engineering, construction technology, information technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of handsโ€‘on experience in construction technologies within the AEC industry, implementing VDC on large capital projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Bluebeam, Procore, and Oracle Primavera Cloud.
  • Advanced understanding of design, construction documents, tools, platforms, and workflows.
  • Knowledge of laser scanners, 3D capture, and drones is a plus.
  • Strong technology aptitude, ability to identify and improve processes, and experience managing the entire technology lifecycle.
  • Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and a proactive, collaborative attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting with vendors, stakeholders, and team members professionally.
  • Integrity, respect, and a passion for construction and field work.
  • Willingness to travel to other offices and project sites on a limited basis.
