Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele Clinical Decision Unit position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

  • Work in a 24-bed Clinical Decision Unit at a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
  • Patient population includes various diagnoses spanning cardiac, respiratory, and neuro in a fast-paced observation setting
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 on both day and night shifts, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8
  • CNA support at a 1:12 ratio; no HUC on unit
  • Telemetry monitoring performed remotely with a Tele tech
  • EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; bedside monitors: Masimo in all rooms
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (0645–1915), 36 hours per week
  • Every-other-weekend rotation required
  • Low census call is possible; callback possible up to 3:00 PM for day shift
  • Floating is required within the region and scope of practice, covering Region 3 facilities (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH)
  • Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months)
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
  • General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV start skills, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Must have been separated from any AHSE facility permanent position for at least 1 year prior to consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide nursing care to a diverse observation patient population with cardiac, respiratory, and neurological diagnoses
  • Department support includes a charge nurse (who may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), a hospitalist (on-site during day shift, virtual evenings and overnight), and an intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes a NEO session plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; hours missed must be made up at the end of the contract
