Instructional Assistant - Speech Language Pathologist
This instructional assistant assists in the process of virtual speech/language instruction. This individual supervises students during their speech/language instructional periods.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works effectively with individual students or small groups to reinforce or master learning or specific skills
  • Operates and cares for equipment or instructional materials used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  • Supervises and assists students during daily routines and emergency drills
  • Provides information and assistance to the virtual speech language pathologist
  • Participates in staff meetings, committee meetings, or staff development sessions as requested
  • Keeps students on task and focused
  • Communicates with the classroom teacher regarding individual child development and behavior
  • Assists in the preparation of appropriate instructional materials
  • Assists with the collection and maintenance of records
  • Assists in providing diagnostic, prescriptive, and monitoring services
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and prioritize his/her daily activities (effective use of time/effort) and works well with minimum supervision
  • Exhibits competence in the subject area(s) in which s/he is assigned
  • Promotes student responsibility and positive leadership
  • Handles unforeseen situations in accordance with policy
  • Maintains acceptable standards of behavior among students and enforces school rules and regulations
  • Accepts supervision and desires to improve job skills
  • Maintains emotional control under stress
  • Uses discretion with confidential information
  • Observes assigned work hours and maintains regular attendance within the number of contracted days
  • Performs other duties within the program scope as assigned

Principal and to the special education coordinator
Qualifications:
  • Deemed "Highly Qualified" by meeting one of the following requirements:
    • Possesses an associate's degree from an accredited college; or
    • Has earned 60 semester hours (or the equivalent) from an accredited college; or
    • Has passed a state approved test
  • Knowledge and understanding of children including those with individual differences
  • Demonstrated the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with adults and children
  • Displays an acceptable skill level in reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Good physical and emotional health
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
