Virtual Library information

What is a virtual library?

Virtual libraries are digital platforms that provide access to a wide range of electronic resources, such as e-books, journals, databases, and multimedia content. Unlike traditional libraries, virtual libraries are accessible online from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing users to search, borrow, and read materials remotely. They often offer research assistance, digital archives, and interactive tools to support learning and research. Virtual libraries are commonly used by students, educators, and researchers to access information quickly and efficiently.

How does a virtual library specialist typically collaborate with educators and students in a remote setting?

Virtual Library Specialists play a key role in supporting both educators and students by curating digital resources, facilitating access to e-books and databases, and offering virtual research assistance. They often conduct online workshops or training sessions to help users navigate digital collections and use research tools effectively. Collaboration is typically achieved through video calls, email, and learning management systems, ensuring that users receive timely support and resources tailored to their academic needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual librarian, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Librarian, you need a background in library and information science, typically with an MLS/MLIS degree, and strong research and information management skills. Familiarity with digital library platforms, online databases, and content management systems is often required. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving abilities help virtual librarians support users effectively in a remote environment. These skills are crucial for providing seamless access to information, guiding patrons, and maintaining efficient digital library services.

Job description

BIM Coordinator
LRK is a nationally recognized design firm built around a team of architects, urban designers, planners, and interior designers. We believe that great places are created through successful collaboration and careful consideration of how these disciplines impact and respect the surrounding community.
LRK is seeking a skilled and motivated BIM Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will play a central part in implementing and managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) processes across a diverse portfolio of architectural projects. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure model integrity, efficient digital workflows, and successful project delivery. This position is an in-office position and could reside in any LRK office location.
Responsibilities include:
  • Implement and manage BIM processes and workflows using Forma Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM 360), Revit, SketchUp or Rhino, and AutoCAD, ensuring all project stakeholders are aligned with established BIM protocols.
  • Manage and create family libraries and templates.
  • Review, contribute to, and implement BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) across all project phases.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, consistent Revit models in coordination with multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring adherence to firm and project standards.
  • Coordinate BIM delivery at the project level, managing model production, drawing outputs, and associated documentation.
  • Lead clash detection and resolution efforts using Forma Model Coordination, Navisworks Manage, or similar tools; and generate clash and coordination reports at regular intervals and project milestones.
  • Facilitate model reviews, coordination meetings, and visualization sessions with project teams, architects, engineers, and contractors.
  • Assist with data extraction, building analysis, and model-based scheduling (4D) as needed.
  • Establish and maintain project folder structures, file naming conventions, and document management systems within Autodesk Forma (ACC/BIM 360).
  • Ensure all team members have appropriate software access, versions, and training required to execute project requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain model health, quality control, and company BIM standards throughout all project phases from design development through construction documents.
  • Provide technical support, training, and troubleshooting for project teams using BIM/VDC tools and platforms.
  • Complete project revisions as design and field changes occur, document change order requests, and maintain accurate project records.
  • Archive project models and documentation at submittals and project closeout.
  • Stay current with emerging BIM/VDC technologies, tools, and industry trends to drive continuous improvement in firm workflows.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a BIM/VDC coordination role within architecture, engineering, or construction.
  • Proficiency in Revit and a strong working knowledge of Autodesk, Autodesk Forma Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM 360), and Navisworks.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Strong understanding of BIM principles, processes, and workflows, including experience producing and implementing BIM Execution Plans.
  • Solid understanding of how architectural and engineering disciplines interact and how construction documents are produced.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage file hierarchies, documentation, and project data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and train all BIM and design technology concepts to all levels of project staff.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative team player.

Preferred:
  • Degree or certificate in Architecture, Engineering, BIM technology, Design Drafting, or a related field preferred, but not required. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience with BIM automation tools and procedures.
  • Familiarity with project management platforms such as Newforma, Procore, or ProjectWise.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google productivity suites.
  • Background in 4D scheduling or 5D cost integration workflows.

This is your opportunity to join a talented team of professionals. LRK offers professional growth and a competitive benefits package... in a friendly, creative, and positive work environment.
