Title:      Library Assistant (Part-time temporary)


Department:   Libraries

Campus:   Hardin Valley

Type of Appointment:  Temporary Part-time

Pay Rate: $16.92 per hour

Work Hours:  10-15 hours per week

*If you are a PSCC Student and eligible for the Student Employment Program, you will be paid on experience and the rates are $14.00 (no experience), $15.00 (6 months experience) and $16.00 (9 months experience)*.

Position Summary: The Library Assistant participates in reference services, LibGuide creation and maintenance, library instruction, and other duties as assigned. The position reports to the Reference Coordinator and Instruction Librarian.

Duties and Responsibilities:

65% Provide individual reference service and group information literacy instruction, both in-person and online. Reference services are available in-person and via phone, email, text, chat, and appointment. In support of reference services, collaborates with the Reference Coordinator

30% -Participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of the library’s web services, including the LibGuides and FAQs, using various applications, including LibApps, PowerPoint, Camtasia, Snagit, Zoom, and related software. Seek out and implement appropriate emerging technologies

5% Maintain knowledge of current professional library practices, including reference interviewing and teaching practices. May be involved with collection development activities, including selection, weeding, assessment, and promotion

Required Qualifications:  Must have completed 9 credit hours of their MLS/MIS/MLIS Degree from an ALA-accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness and ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and other patrons with varying skill levels, interest levels, and different lived experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency with English.
  • Ability to perform highly detailed work.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine issues with technology.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of academic library operations, including reference services
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn web and media design tools, softwares, and systems, including discovery search systems, Springshare products, Zoom, and Canva.
