As a Systems & Data Automation Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Initiating and conducting broadly defined technical programs related to data integration and information flow across multiple platforms in a manufacturing environment supporting safety, quality, service and cost.

  • Leading the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of software systems integrated with upper-level manufacturing and business data systems and lower-level control systems used to manufacture 3M products.

  • Maintaining data systems to reliably provide information necessary for decision making by production, engineering, and other support roles for real-time and historical data analytics.

  • Supporting development and adoption of company best practices for software and process technologies to enable commercialization and value stream improvement.

  • Proactively communicating project status and issues to the project stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and achievement of project milestones.

  • Championing self-development and providing high-level troubleshooting capabilities and tactical support for day-to-day manufacturing operations.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) and three (3) years of Systems Engineering, Control Systems, IT Analyst, or similar Manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

OR

  • Associate's degree or higher in a technical field from an accredited institution and eight (8) years of Systems Engineering, Control Systems, IT Analyst, or similar Manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a four-year engineering degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Ten (10) combined years of experience Systems Engineering, Control Systems, IT Analyst, or similar Manufacturing experience.

  • Passion for and experience in developing SMART Manufacturing, Data Automation, Industry 4.0, and Connected Manufacturing

  • Efficient database skills including SQL scripts, stored procedures, and SQL reporting tools.

  • Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) integration.

  • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA environments, Ethernet and Modbus network communications, Microsoft Development Environment, and Windows operating systems.

  • Working experience in cloud-based software architecture and development; IT systems integration; manufacturing IT systems; web and mobile application development.

  • Understanding of deployment aspects of upper-level manufacturing and business data systems (SAP, legacy, and other enterprise systems).

  • Experience with Symphony AI(Savigent) Workflow Software, WonderWare, SEEQ, Services Oriented Architecture (SOA), big data concept (including Microsoft SQL Server), C#, JavaScript, Python, Web API, REST APIs, ASP.NET MVC, UI development, secure computing concepts, designing cloud native applications, DevOps tooling (such as TFS, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet).
