Data Analyst/Associate Data Engineer – IT

Individuals interested in this position will support a dedicated business domain: our Data Engineering team within the Data and Analytics Office, and will require strong initiative, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Specific competencies include:

  • Data Structures and Models - Performs enhancements to modeling techniques with direct supervision. Special analysis may be conducted using standard statistical and/or data visualization techniques.
  • Data Pipelines and ELT - Collates and analyzes data. Transforming database requirements into logical data models. Developing physical data models to define the database structure.
  • Data Performance - Collects and reports management data to support decisions on day-to-day operations and specific business performance issues. Compiles, sorts and organizes data in preparation for subsequent analysis. Helps to identify and resolve any data quality issues through allocated data cleaning and testing tasks.
  • Visualizations and Dashboards - Uses a limited range of BI and data analysis tools to provide visualizations and reports within a comparatively structured reporting framework. Collaborates with internal clients and other team members to understand business requirements and support the development of routine and ad-hoc reports and dashboards in line with these requirements.

Level of position determined based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with business and technical team members, data scientists, BI analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions.
  • Translates functional requirements into data model and pipeline needs.
  • Provides issue resolution and maintenance of existing business unit solutions in the enterprise data warehouses.
  • Engineers data models for dimensions and facts within the staging and warehouse layers, ensuring grain, keys, and source-to-target mappings follow established patterns.
  • Supports development in the semantic/presentation layers used by enterprise BI tools.
  • Engineers and performance-tunes basic data pipelines, moving data from various source systems and file types into dimensional models.
  • Utilizes SQL within Python, Informatica, Google BigQuery, and Oracle SQL Views to perform metric calculations or derive dimension attributes.
  • Develops scheduling and orchestration for batch full and incremental loads into enterprise data warehouse platforms, following established standards and patterns.
  • Develops components within the core metadata model—physical, logical, and presentation layers—used by enterprise BI platforms.
  • Engineers dashboards and visualizations that apply simple, intuitive UI designs and support core Supply Chain reporting needs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Analytics, MIS, or related field, and experience in business intelligence and data warehouse development.
  • 2+ years of SQL experience (reading and writing SQL for analysis or transformation).
  • 2+ years of experience working in a business intelligence/reporting tool such as Tableau, PowerBI, or OBIEE.
  • 1+ year of experience developing ETLs or integrations using tools such as Python, Informatica, SSIS.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong initiative and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Proficient SQL skills.
  • Experience developing data pipelines and queries within Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) and/or Oracle databases.
  • Experience engineering within a data warehouse or hands-on dimensional modeling experience.
  • Experience tuning SQL and ETLs.
  • Proven ability to gather detailed requirements and deliver BI/reporting solutions end-to-end.

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base hiring pay range for the Data Analyst/Associate Data Engineer role is between $70,900 - $104,050 per year, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
