Position Title: Assistant Director for Community Engagement and Career
Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director for Community Engagement and Career will serve as the career coach for the School of Education and related majors and the program manager for the Partners for Learning program.
Community Engagement Program Manager for Partners for LearningThe national award‑winning Partners for Learning program engages Nazareth students as tutors and mentors in partnerships with the children, teachers, and staff of eight urban sites. Focused on advancing educational equity as part of a regional collective impact strategy, these partnerships are designed to help raise the academic performance and educational aspirations of the children while heightening the social awareness and sharpening the professional skills of Nazareth students. The program manager recruits, prepares, guides reflection, supervises and mentors college students as they participate in this community‑engaged learning and leadership program.
Partners for Learning is part of the federal work‑study financial aid program, supporting college student access as it is a paid college employment experience. The program manager also contributes to the programming of the Weider Community Engagement office, collaborating with colleagues to support community‑engaged scholarship programs and capacity building for community engagement programming for faculty, staff, students and community partners.
Career CoachAs a coach, guide students in developing and implementing a holistic approach to their career and life’s work by realizing their potential, building relationships, pursuing meaningful experiences, and telling their story in a professional way. In collaboration with academic and co‑curricular programs, coaches develop and deliver models of integrated career education and experiential learning. Coaches maintain a caseload of students within their assigned majors and programs in which they develop relationships and support them throughout their time at Nazareth.
Envision career and life design as work rooted in social justice and inextricably tied to the value and purpose of higher education and take that vision to the next level through collaborative cross‑campus efforts that push us toward greater equity and inclusion.
This is a staff bargaining unit position.
Essential Functions Partners for Learning (PFL)- Manage program budget, including accountability for spending, identifying program needs, and developing budget proposals.
- Supervise student worker(s): select, train, assign work, set or approve schedule and time records, address issues with student workers in a timely fashion and make appropriate judgments, including removing students from the program if necessary.
- Supervise members of the Partners Council who serve as student coordinators, transportation coordinators, site coordinators and liaisons for each site.
- Plan and implement leadership development programs for the Partners for Learning Student Leadership Council.
- Manage community partnerships by implementing program and university policies at each site; make periodic site visits to meet with site representatives and visit partners at the sites; develop and maintain Memoranda of Understanding.
- Determine the health of community partnerships and bring partnerships to a close if appropriate.
- Plan and implement orientations, trainings and meetings that provide opportunities for students to learn, gain leadership and job skills necessary to complete community service projects.
- Create opportunities that help students reflect and process their experiences.
- Educate students by implementing the experiential learning component of the core curriculum.
- Create program assessments and reports.
- Plan and carry out publicity for the Partners for Learning program.
- Contribute to the programming of the Weider Community Engagement office by:
- Collaborating with colleagues to support community‑engaged scholarship programs,
- Assisting with community engagement programming for faculty, staff, students and community partners.
- Together with faculty in the School of Education and related departments, develop a career education and career preparation strategy to engage students in the assigned caseload.
- Determine a relevant and effective exploration and planning process related to career development, utilizing a framework developed and agreed upon within the Career Design Office and faculty in related disciplines.
- Instruct and present in relevant courses and develop new career development curriculum specific to majors/programs.
- Provide 1:1 and group career coaching appointments to undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni on topics including resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job search strategies and explorations or experiential learning opportunities that align with their life’s work.
- Teach career development–related courses.
- Assist with department and university events, including job fairs, workshops, orientation and admissions events.
- Assist with the collection of data from recent graduates relating to their plans after graduation.
- Serve as a connector for the career team, community engagement team and the School of Education by building links and partnerships related to the field of education.
- Serve on cross‑functional teams and college initiatives as a CFLW representative; contribute to strategic planning to evolve center services and programs.
- Participate in ongoing professional development through conferences, webinars and involvement with professional organizations; submit conference proposals and participate in professional development leadership roles to bring recognition to the innovation of Nazareth’s Center for Life’s Work.
- Master’s degree in Education, Community Engagement/Development, Career Counseling or related fields.
- Experience supporting students through community‑engaged learning, service learning or experiential learning programs.
- Experience as a Career Coach.
