Job description

Position Summary

Mid-West Textile is seeking a Vintage Sorter with a passion for fashion and a strong understanding of vintage clothing, brands, labels, and apparel trends. This position is responsible for identifying, grading, and sorting vintage and secondhand garments according to established quality and classification standards.

The ideal candidate has experience with vintage apparel, thrift stores, resale, fashion merchandising, clothing brands, or collecting vintage clothing and can quickly recognize valuable, unique, and trend-relevant items.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify and classify vintage and used clothing based on established grade descriptions.
  • Recognize vintage brands, labels, eras, styles, fabrics, and fashion trends.
  • Sort garments into designated categories and containers.
  • Maintain production and quality standards while ensuring accurate classification.
  • Inspect garments for quality, condition, and distinguishing vintage characteristics.
  • Participate in daily stretching and safety exercises.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
  • Work overtime and Saturdays as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of vintage clothing, fashion history, apparel brands, and resale trends required.
  • Experience working in vintage retail, thrift stores, consignment shops, fashion merchandising, apparel production, or clothing resale preferred.
  • Ability to identify vintage labels, fabrics, and styles from different decades.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to meet productivity and quality standards.
Preferred Experience
  • Vintage clothing collector, reseller, or enthusiast.
  • Experience selling on eBay, Depop, Poshmark, Etsy, Whatnot, or similar platforms.
  • Experience in thrift, consignment, fashion retail, or apparel sorting environments.
  • Knowledge of sought-after vintage brands, band tees, denim, sportswear, workwear, and designer labels.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended periods, up to 10 hours at times.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, turning, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and handle garments and items up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to walk throughout the facility and use stairs when required.
