Job description

Cramer Fish Sciences is seeking a full-time Seasonal Lab Technician to join our team in West Sacramento, CA to supports scientists primarily in laboratory operations through data collection, sample processing, and analytical support. Key responsibilities include identifying and enumerating macroinvertebrates, processing fish hard structures and zooplankton samples, and conducting video reviews of fish communities. Secondarily, there may also be opportunities to support field operations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform laboratory work identifying macroinvertebrates, processing fish hard structures, and zooplankton, and/or video review of fish communities.
  • Sort, identify, and enumerate individual organisms in invertebrate samples.
  • Analyze video footage to detect, identify, and quantify fish and other aquatic organisms.
  • Accurately interpret and follow established scientific guidelines and protocols as you perform data collection, entry, organization, and quality assurance/control.
  • Use safe handling techniques and best practices to ensure fish health for marking, tagging, or releases.
  • May conduct fisheries or habitat surveys, such as fish trapping and tagging, visual estimation techniques (e.g., snorkeling, redd surveys), physical habitat surveys (e.g., water quality, channel bathymetry), and individual specimen measurements.
  • Routine communication with supervisor and staff to ensure all requirements of the project are met.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, adhere to company's safety policies and procedures, and ensure all people on the jobsite follow the same.
  • Field staff may be responsible for completing routine maintenance checklists for sampling equipment, vehicles, and watercraft. Duties may include cleaning, decontaminating gear, and performing minor repairs to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety or cleanliness standards.

EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited college or university in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, environmental science, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year of related and pertinent experience.

COMPENSATION
$21.00 - $25.00/hour depending upon experience. Final compensation at Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is determined based on internal equity, relevant qualifications and experience, and market considerations.
