Job description

Vice President/Associate Vice President, Regional Research OperationsResponsibilities:
  • Lead expansion across R&D sites; oversee current operations and future acquisitions.
  • Build a sustainable organization and maintain compliance with regulatory/legal/right-to-operate requirements.
  • Strengthen organization via recruiting, training, coaching, development; structure teams; drive behaviors through clear communication and respect.
  • Simplify/prioritize work to speed decisions.
  • Partner with west coast site leadership to align roles/accountabilities and ensure compliance.
  • Provide operational/strategic oversight and execution for: R&D facilities (Gateway Labs), Supply Chain & Shipping Office, Third-Party Risk Assessment, “Protect Lilly,” and Research Data Systems.
  • Partner with finance/procurement/business stakeholders; facilitate onboarding of acquired entities.
  • Manage upward and communicate cross-functionally; resolve issues on team/equipment/capital projects; document decisions; keep project management and finance processes current.
  • Serve as point of contact for site operations, capital/asset, third-party risk, and supply chain programs.
  • Additional: build external partnerships; collaborate with HSE/local safety to ensure safe environment; pursue synergistic facility/technology approaches; maintain compliance with policies/SOPs/Red Book; lead capability/projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS+ in scientific/pharmaceutical development field; 15+ years pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Experience with regulated processes/activities.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience.
  • Project management and strategic planning experience.
Additional Preferences/Skills:
  • Research-environment regulatory compliance experience; strong PM skills/tools.
  • Organizational/people management; senior-level influence; communication; problem-solving; transformational change leadership.
  • Interpersonal/team building and coaching/feedback; adaptability.
  • Coordinate across multiple sites; travel 20–30%.
  • US work authorization (no anticipated visa sponsorship).
  • Business acumen/financial concepts; external partner experience; collaboration across R&D groups (incl. IT/HSE/HR/procurement/legal/compliance); lab instrumentation and new-facility/renovation experience.
