Job Description
The Vice President of Total Rewards is a senior executive responsible for the strategy, design, governance, and execution of all total rewards programs for Advance Auto Parts. This role ensures the company's compensation, benefits, well-being, and recognition programs attract, motivate, and retain talent while aligning with business strategy, financial objectives, and shareholder interests.
The VP of Total Rewards partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Finance, Legal, and the Board of Directors (including the Compensation Committee) to deliver market-competitive, equitable, and compliant reward solutions across corporate, retail, supply chain, and field populations.
Location & Work Availability:
This position is Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote), based at our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Total Rewards Strategy
  • Develop and lead a comprehensive total rewards strategy aligned with Advance Auto Parts' business priorities, growth plans, and talent strategy.
  • Ensure programs support attraction and retention across diverse employee segments, including retail frontline, field leadership, distribution, corporate, and executive populations.
  • Regularly assess market competitiveness using internal data, external benchmarks, and evolving labor market dynamics.

Executive & Incentive Compensation
  • Design, manage, and administer executive compensation programs, including base pay, annual incentives, long-term incentives, and equity programs.
  • Partner with the CHRO, CFO, Legal, and the Board Compensation Committee on executive pay decisions, disclosures, and proxy requirements.
  • Ensure governance, transparency, and compliance with SEC, SOX, and other regulatory standards.

Broad-Based Compensation Programs
  • Oversee all job architecture, salary structures, incentive plans, and pay governance frameworks across the enterprise.
  • Lead annual merit, bonus, and promotional planning cycles to ensure consistency, equity, and financial discipline.
  • Advance pay equity practices and reporting, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and benchmark relocation support and policies for the enterprise.

  • Balance employee experience, preventive care, driving participation, cost management, and competitive positioning.

Financial Stewardship & Analytics
  • Partner with Finance to manage total rewards budgets, forecasting, and long-range cost modeling.
  • Establish robust analytics and reporting to evaluate program effectiveness, ROI, and talent outcomes.
  • Use data-driven insights to advise executive leadership on workforce investment decisions.

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (FLSA, ERISA, ACA, tax, and wage/hour laws).
  • Lead audits, governance reviews, and risk mitigation related to rewards programs.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and vendor oversight.

Leadership & Influence
  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing total rewards organization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on compensation and benefits matters.
  • Communicate complex reward concepts clearly to executives, leaders, and employees.

Certifications, Experience and Education:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in total rewards, with significant leadership at the director or VP level in a large, complex organization.
  • Deep expertise in broad-based compensation, incentive design, LTI, executive compensation, and benefits.
  • Experience supporting public-company governance and working with Boards or Compensation Committees.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Proven ability to lead change, influence senior stakeholders, and operate at an enterprise level.

Preferred
  • Experience in retail, distribution, field-based, or hourly-heavy environments.
  • Experience supporting total rewards in AMEA preferred.
  • Certifications such as CCP, GRP, CECP or similar.
