Job description

Job Title:         Quantum Scientist, Quantum Computing Services Job Type:                 Full-time

Job Location:      Boston, MA

Reports to:       VP of Quantum Computing Services

Summary:

 

QuEra is seeking a Quantum Scientist to join the Quantum Computing Services team at the QuEra headquarters in Boston. The team's mission is to develop QuEra's machines into cutting-edge quantum computing products and services; your role on the team will focus on the experimental aspects of calibration, compilation, and benchmarking.

In this role, you will be working with physicists and engineers over multiple locations where QuEra machines are installed, and across various functions at QuEra covering R&D, software engineering, and application development.

You will also interface with customers and collaborators to enable leading-edge scientific and demonstration projects on QuEra's machines. Your initial focus will be on QuEra's Gemini-class gate-based quantum computing systems deployed in Japan, the UK, and Boston.

You will be expected to lead or co-lead the following activities:

  • Development of calibration and compilation approaches and pipelines towards arbitrary programmability of the machines by
  • Collaborating with customers and application developers on pilot projects to showcase and benchmark QuEra's

machines.

You will be expected to support the following activities:

  • Bring-up of the first Gemini machine in AIST, Tsukuba, Japan (requiring some travel to Japan).
  • Integration and testing of the quantum computing service
  • Product launches related to QuEra's quantum computing services for cloud and on-
  • System performance
  • System operations, including incident
Qualifications:

 

  • A Ph.D. in experimental AMO physics or related field, with hands-on experience in building or operating a neutral atom or a trapped ion system, or another quantum hardware platform or Practical experience with actual gate-based quantum computers is a major asset.
  • Success in research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific talks and other
  • Strong communication skills and strong interest in working with a variety of customers and end users to understand their needs and translate them into product.
  • Software skills, including programming languages and a basic understanding of software
  • Experience in mentoring or training scientists or
  • Ability to provide on-call support for machine and service
  • Ability to periodically travel to machine locations.

Salary Range: 145,000 - 175,000. We consistently monitor external market data and update base salary ranges accordingly.  We determine base compensation decisions on several factors, including as geographic placement, role-specific knowledge, skills, and/or experience.  In addition to our base salary offerings, we also provide equity grants for all new hires.
