Job description

Overview

The Vice President of Operations (VP of Operations) for Mount North Capital, a division of Last Best Partners, is a hands-on, execution-driven leader responsible for building, running, and scaling the day-to-day operations of a high-growth real estate investment fund focused on reinvigorating dilapidated real estate across multiple asset classes (single family homes, multifamily apartments, commercial properties, etc.) in multiple states.

This is an operator-heavy role. The VP of Operations will oversee personnel decisions, design systems and processes, as well as actively own execution, drive accountability, and ensure results across acquisitions and portfolio operations. This leader thrives in fast-paced environments, rolls up their sleeves, and directly drives performance, speed, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operational oversight across acquisitions, construction/rehab, dispositions, and rental stabilization
  • Directly manage and hold teams accountable for hitting aggressive KPIs tied to growth plans
  • Monitor active projects daily/weekly to ensure timelines, budgets, and ROI targets are met or exceeded
  • Identify bottlenecks in real time and implement immediate solutions to maintain deal velocity and margin
  • Adopt, implement, and scale processes and technologies that drive standardization, efficiency, and automation
  • Establish and run KPI dashboards (deal flow, conversion rates, cost per acquisition, rehab timelines, budget variance, days to sale/lease, ROI)
  • Drive speed-to-close and speed-to-market initiatives to maximize capital velocity
  • Partner closely with Finance to manage capital deployment, job costing, forecasting, and deal-level profitability
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance management for operations and support teams
  • Implement and enforce operational systems (CRM, project management, construction tracking, portfolio management)
  • Drive cross-functional coordination between acquisitions and asset management teams
  • Support rapid market expansion and ensure operational consistency across geographies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business with experience in Real Estate, Construction Management, Finance, or related field (MBA a plus, not required)
  • 10–15+ years of hands-on operations leadership experience, ideally within real estate investment, construction, or property management
  • Proven track record of operating and scaling a fix-and-flip, SFR rental, or distressed asset business
  • Strong understanding of acquisitions, underwriting, job costing, and portfolio performance
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to manage margins, ROI, and capital efficiency in real time
  • Experience in high-growth or investment fund environments strongly preferred

Key Competencies

  • Relentless execution and ownership mentality
  • Highly organized with strong operational discipline
  • Data-driven with a focus on measurable outcomes
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and solving problems quickly
  • Strong leadership presence with ability to drive accountability
  • Hands-on builder who leads from the front, not from the sidelines

Work Environment

  • Location: Ideally Northeast Ohio. Mostly Remote
  • Travel: Low to moderate depending on active projects and market footprint
