Job description

Position OverviewThe Vice President, Strategy reports to the SVP, Strategy and is responsible for supporting the Executive Leadership Team's (ELT) strategic priorities supporting Burlington's growth initiatives and business transformation. The direction and priorities for which, are set by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Merchandising Officer and Chief Operating Officer with input from, and consultation with, the ELT.
In supporting these strategic initiatives across Burlington's business units (BU), the Strategy team not only provides internal consulting resources but also ensures each BU's strategic initiatives are consistent with and reinforce Burlington's overall growth agenda.
As a highly visible position in the organization with significant cross-functional interaction and communication with the C-suite and business unit leaders, the VP will support the ELT in making critical business decision that drive growth and profitability. S/he will work closely with business leaders to develop and refine the Company's strategy to align with a rapidly changing market, shifting customer buying behavior, evolving business models, and shifting revenue and profit pools. He/she will lead cross-functional initiatives, drive customer insights across formats, and monitor ongoing and ad hoc internal and external events to support the company's ongoing success and expansion efforts.
In this role the candidate must have the ability to learn and apply off-price tenets in merchandising and operations, while infusing consumer and competitive insights into cohesive strategies that support Burlington's business. The ideal candidate brings outstanding conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative mindset to lead and influence cross-functional teams. This candidate leads a team of highly motivated individuals with deep strategy consulting and insights expertise.A Day in the Life
  • Working in conjunction with the Senior Vice President and other key senior executives to drive key analysis supporting strategy development at the corporate and business unit level, designing, developing, and executing whitespace growth opportunities consistent with the Company's goals
  • Communicating strategy to key internal and external partners.
  • Partnering with business leaders and the ELT to drive major growth, and value creation initiatives, managing and facilitating cross-functional programs. Drive meaningful decisions and impactful business outcomes and help identify and clear roadblocks to progress.
  • Manage and monitor progress of the broad-based growth strategy agenda to ensure we are delivering the benefits from the transformation initiatives underway.
  • Ensuring all functional areas are communicating and are aligned on short-, mid-, and long-term goals.
  • Drive competitive, and consumer insights, to influence the overall corporate strategy.
  • Encouraging and analyzing consumer research to provide insight on customer strategy opportunities for the company and for individual businesses.
  • Providing ad hoc business and competitive intelligence, and insights for key senior executives, e.g., new store performance, competitive information, and mergers & acquisitions impacts.
You'll Come With
  • Top tier MBA or advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred
  • 6+ years in management consulting or comparable corporate strategy experience preferred
  • Strong overall problem-solving capabilities including proven creative, conceptual, and analytic skillsets
  • Ability to frame new, ambiguous, and complex issues and articulate the implications by conducting rigorous and objective financial analysis
  • Good listening skills: ability to capture perspectives of diverse stakeholders and find common ground to drive actions
  • Ability to collaborate with senior level executives (EVP, SVP etc.); team player with the ability to sell change effectively and influence others across reporting relationships
  • Experience working closely with line groups to ensure that results and recommendations are brought to life in the business
  • Strong sense of accountability; passion for owning projects and driving them to completion; ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Keen understanding and passion for Retail; off-price experience is preferred
  • Pro-active leadership style with a desire to develop, grow, and mentor a high performing team
  • A proven track record of conducting research, analyzing/synthesizing results, and integrating specific, actionable insights into successful business driving programs
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills; excellent presentation skills and experience presenting to high-level audiences
