Assistant Vice President (AVP) โ€“ Insurance Operations & Distribution Strategy


A well-established and growing life insurance organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP) to join its executive leadership team. This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to influence strategy, support growth initiatives, and serve as a key partner to senior leadership. This position is ideal for a life insurance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and has a strong understanding of insurance operations, distribution, agent relations, and executive-level communication. The organization operates across multiple insurance entities, serves thousands of policyholders and shareholders, and is actively pursuing domestic and international growth initiatives.


Position Overview

Reporting directly to executive leadership, the AVP will play a critical role in supporting agent distribution channels, product initiatives, shareholder communications, operational improvements, and strategic business growth. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in life insurance operations and distribution while also contributing to business strategy, performance reporting, and cross-functional leadership initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Agent & Distribution Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with independent agents, agencies, financial advisors, and field leaders.
  • Support agent recruitment, engagement, retention, and communication initiatives.
  • Collaborate with distribution partners to identify growth opportunities and improve field performance.

Executive Reporting & Business Analytics

  • Monitor business performance, distribution metrics, and operational KPIs.
  • Analyze production, persistency, claims, placement, and growth trends.
  • Prepare executive-level reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations.

Product & Business Development

  • Partner with underwriting, actuarial, operations, and leadership teams to support product development initiatives.
  • Assist with product launches and market expansion efforts.
  • Research industry trends and competitive opportunities.

Policyholder & Shareholder Communications

  • Develop communications and presentations for policyholders and investors.
  • Support shareholder relations activities and investor inquiries.
  • Ensure communications align with regulatory and compliance standards.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate across operations, finance, compliance, legal, underwriting, and customer service teams.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiencies.
  • Support strategic initiatives and special projects as the organization continues to grow.


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience within the life insurance industry.
  • Background in life insurance operations, administration, distribution, marketing operations, or executive-level insurance leadership.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Life insurance products
  • Policy administration
  • Independent agent distribution channels
  • Agent recruiting and retention strategies
  • Insurance compliance and regulatory environments
  • Performance reporting and analytics
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Advanced insurance designations (CLU, ChFC, FLMI, etc.) are highly desirable.
  • Experience with policy administration systems and reinsurance platforms.
  • Exposure to annuity products and distribution models.
  • Experience supporting international insurance initiatives is a plus.
