Job description

Covetrus is a global animal-health technology and services leader dedicated to empowering veterinary practice partners to drive improved health and financial outcomes. We bring together products, services, and technology into a single platform that connects our customers to the solutions and insights they need to work best. Our passion for the well-being of animals and those who care for them drives us to advance the world of veterinary medicine.

Summary

We are looking for a curious, detail-oriented Taxonomy Analyst to join our team and help translate complex veterinary clinic data into actionable insights. This role collaborates with business intelligence and data engineering, making it ideal for someone with a passion for both animals and analytics. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, veterinary SMEs, and business stakeholders to surface insights that drive better outcomes for our hospital partners, clients, and patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports that support product insights, data quality, and financial performance.
  • Query, clean, and analyze large datasets from veterinary practice management systems using SQL.
  • Build and understand taxonomy development and consumption through various data pipelines.
  • Perform data mapping using various product and patient demographic taxonomies.
  • Partner with software engineers to translate clinical workflows into data requirements.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities in hospital performance data and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support data integrity initiatives, including data validation, reconciliation, and documentation of data pipelines.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the veterinary business ecosystem, including how hospital data flows through scheduling, invoicing, medical records, and client communications.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on ad hoc analytical requests from operations, finance, product, and leadership teams.
  • Advance AI tooling initiatives by providing QA for machine learning and normalization model outputs.
  • Contribute to the development of KPIs, metrics frameworks, and data governance standards.

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in a data analyst, business intelligence, or related role.
  • Proficiency in SQL, comfortable with writing complex queries, joins, subqueries, and aggregations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain nuanced veterinary industry concepts to highly technical software engineers and translate technical data constraints back to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in the veterinary industry, animal health, or related healthcare setting.
  • Strong data visualization skills; experience with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, DataBricks Dashboards.
  • In-clinic experience, whether as a veterinary technician, practice manager, receptionist, or other patient-facing role is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software (e.g., Pulse, Impromed, AVImark, etc).
  • Understanding of the broader veterinary business ecosystem and how hospital data drives outcomes across analytics, client experience, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with Python for data analysis and automation.
  • Experience working with ETL pipelines, data warehouses, or cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, DataBricks, dbt).
  • Knowledge of healthcare or veterinary data standards and compliance considerations.
