To address these challenges, Veterans RNs benefit from ongoing training in trauma-informed care, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and a compassionate approach that respects each veteran's unique experiences.

How to get a VA job as a nurse?

To become a VA nurse, you need to meet the VA's hiring requirements, which typically include holding a valid nursing license, completing a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN), and gaining relevant clinical experience. Applying through the USAJOBS website and preparing a federal resume tailored to VA positions are essential steps. Additional certifications such as BLS or ACLS can enhance your application, and understanding VA healthcare systems is beneficial.

Is the VA still hiring nurses?

What are Veterans RNs?

Veterans RNs are registered nurses who specialize in providing healthcare to military veterans, often working in Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals, clinics, or community-based settings. They address the unique physical and mental health needs of veterans, such as service-related injuries, PTSD, and chronic illnesses. Compassion, cultural competence, and strong communication skills help build trust and advocate effectively for veteran patients. These skills ensure that veterans receive high-quality, personalized care while navigating complex healthcare systems.
