What is a veteran non profit?

A Veteran Non Profit job involves working for an organization that supports military veterans through services such as healthcare, employment assistance, housing, and advocacy. These roles can range from case management and fundraising to program coordination and policy development. Employees in these positions work to improve the well-being of veterans by providing essential resources and support. Many of these organizations rely on grants, donations, and government funding to operate.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive in a veteran non profit?

To thrive in the veteran non-profit sector, individuals typically need experience in program management, fundraising, community outreach, and a background in veteran services or social work. Familiarity with donor management software, grant writing tools, and reporting systems is often required, along with certifications in nonprofit management or veteran support when applicable. Outstanding interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and a passion for supporting veterans help professionals excel in this field. Professionals in veteran non-profits often encounter challenges such as securing consistent funding, navigating complex veteran benefits systems, and providing tailored support to clients with diverse backgrounds and needs. Balancing administrative duties with direct outreach can require strong organizational skills, and there is frequently a need to adapt services to stay in line with evolving government programs and community resources. However, the work environment tends to be mission-driven and collaborative, with opportunities to make a tangible, positive impact on veterans' lives and to advance into leadership or specialized program roles as experience grows.

Job description

About Central Florida Warriors Hockey

Central Florida Warriors Hockey (CFW) is a nonprofit adaptive hockey organization dedicated to serving disabled veterans throughout Central Florida.

Our mission is to heal, educate and unite Central Florida's disabled veterans through adaptive ice hockey.

As our organization continues to grow, we are expanding our fundraising, community engagement, sponsorship and event initiatives to build a stronger organization and create more opportunities for the veterans and families we serve.

About the Role

Central Florida Warriors Hockey is seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Engagement & Development Coordinator to work directly with our VP of Business Operations in developing and executing fundraising campaigns, community events, sponsorship initiatives and organizational outreach.

This is an opportunity to take an active role in growing a veteran-serving nonprofit while helping create events, partnerships and fundraising programs that directly support Central Florida's disabled veteran community.

This individual will help turn ideas into actionโ€”from identifying potential sponsors and planning fundraising events to coordinating volunteers, developing community partnerships and making sure our supporters remain connected to the CFW mission.

What You'll Help With

  • Plan and coordinate fundraising and community events
  • Develop new fundraising campaigns and initiatives
  • Identify and research potential corporate sponsors and community partners
  • Assist with sponsor outreach and relationship development
  • Help prepare sponsorship opportunities and partnership proposals
  • Coordinate sponsor recognition and activation at CFW events
  • Develop relationships with businesses, veteran organizations and community groups
  • Assist with donor outreach and donor stewardship
  • Help organize raffles, auctions, tournaments, special events and fundraising campaigns
  • Coordinate volunteers supporting events and fundraising initiatives
  • Assist with social media and marketing surrounding events, sponsors and fundraising campaigns
  • Track prospective sponsors, donors and community partners
  • Help develop creative new ways to generate revenue and community awareness
  • Represent Central Florida Warriors Hockey professionally within the Central Florida community
  • Work with CFW leadership to ensure initiatives support the organization's mission and strategic priorities

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organized and dependable
  • Comfortable communicating with businesses and community leaders
  • Creative and willing to bring new ideas
  • Able to take ownership of projects
  • Comfortable helping plan and execute events
  • Interested in fundraising, nonprofit development, marketing or community relations
  • Strong in written and verbal communication
  • Able to work independently while collaborating with CFW leadership
  • Passionate about supporting veterans and the Central Florida community

Experience with nonprofit organizations, fundraising, event planning, sponsorships, marketing, sales, business development or community outreach is helpful but not required.

Hockey experience is not required.

What You'll Gain

This role provides an opportunity to build meaningful experience in:

  • Nonprofit leadership
  • Fundraising and development
  • Corporate sponsorships
  • Event management
  • Community relations
  • Marketing
  • Donor development
  • Veteran nonprofit programming
  • Strategic organizational growth

You'll work directly with CFW's VP of Business Operations and have the opportunity to help shape new initiatives rather than simply executing an established program.

Time Commitment

Flexible volunteer position.

Much of the planning and coordination can be completed remotely, with in-person participation needed for certain CFW events, meetings and community activities throughout Central Florida.

The workload may vary depending on upcoming events and fundraising campaigns.

Our Mission

We heal, we educate and we unite Central Florida's disabled veterans through adaptive ice hockey.

If you're interested in using your skills, relationships and creativity to help grow an organization that directly serves veterans, we'd like to hear from you.
