Job description

About the role

Picture your day starting from your home base near Las Vegas. Your fully outfitted service truck is stocked and ready — crane, welder, compressor on board. Dispatch pings you to a customer yard where an aerial device is down. You arrive, diagnose diesel, hydraulic, and electrical issues, source parts, and get the unit back to work. By afternoon, you’re performing a DOT inspection and dielectric test on a digger derrick, documenting results and advising on preventative maintenance. That’s a typical day for a Mobile Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician supporting our utility, telecom, rail, and construction partners.

At Custom Truck One Source (CTOS), we’ve spent 30+ years building a national footprint — 40+ locations, 2,600 employees, and a 10,000+ unit fleet — dedicated to specialized utility trucks and equipment. Join the team customers call first when uptime matters most.

What you’ll do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain aerial, construction, and light-to-heavy-duty truck equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, and service trucks, primarily at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot and service diesel engines, hydraulic circuits, and electrical/ECU systems.
  • Complete inspections and compliance work such as DOT inspections and dielectric testing, and perform parts replacement and component rebuilds on CTOS rental and customer-owned assets.
Where you’ll work
  • Operate as a remote road mechanic working largely within a 150-mile radius of Las Vegas.
  • Travel overnight approximately 25–50% across NV, UT, AZ, and CA.
What we provide
  • A fully equipped service truck (crane, welder, compressor).
  • Competitive pay with overtime eligibility.
  • Comprehensive benefits, 401(k) match, paid time off, tool program, and more.
What you bring
  • 7+ years of combined shop and field experience.
  • Background with utility, construction (yellow iron), or heavy equipment (CAT, Deere, Komatsu) and medium/heavy-duty trucks.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude across diesel, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively with a team; self-sufficient and organized.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class B a plus; personal tools required.
Core proficiencies
  • DOT Medical Card
  • Driver's License
  • Construction Equipment Maintenance
  • Electrical Systems Diagnostics & Repair
  • Diesel Engine Systems
  • Light Vehicle Diesel Engines
  • Diesel & Heavy Equipment Systems
  • Hydraulic Systems & Components
  • Electrical Systems & Diagnostics (Heavy Equipment)
  • Equipment Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
  • Crane & Lifting Equipment Systems
  • Aerial & Utility Equipment Systems
  • DOT & Equipment Inspection Compliance
Equipment and technology you’ll touch
  • Boom Truck (Altec, Elliott, National Crane, Load King, Terex)
  • Aerial Devices (Terex, Altec, Elliott, Versalift)
  • Boom Crane (Manitowoc, Link-Belt)
  • After Treatment Systems (DPF, DEF) (Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Bosch)
