In joining Stifel’s Venture Banking team, a Managing Director (MD) is responsible for leading efforts to support venture backed companies across all their financial services needs.  This role involves sourcing new opportunities (both debt and banking/deposit only), structuring debt solutions, managing a portfolio of clients, and leading/managing a team of professionals to drive growth and innovation in the technology and life sciences sectors.  The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team and portfolio of venture backed companies, as well as the ability and network to build and grow strong relationships in market.      


  • Establish and maintain relationships with venture capital backed founders and executives, as well as, with investors and industry advisors to drive deal flow and meet business objectives.

  • Active in market at industry events and building the Stifel Venture Banking brand.

  • Responsibility for team’s deal processes, including structuring, loan underwriting, loan documentation and the loan closing process.

  • Responsibility for a portfolio of venture backed clients, which includes ongoing portfolio management responsibilities and effectively deploying Stifel platform resources to support clients.

  • Effectively recruit, manage, and lead a team of venture banking professionals.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the venture capital industry and Stifel’s products and services. Collaborate with the leadership team of the bank to develop new products and best position the Stifel platform in market.

  • Develop strong understanding of broader Stifel platform (including Investment Bank, Wealth Management, etc.) and identify and drive opportunities across the platform.


  • Advanced knowledge in venture lending/structuring, underwriting, and portfolio management.
  • Strong team leadership skills to help coach, develop and retain team members.
  • Effectively communicate (written and oral) with clients, prospects, and executive management.
  • Understanding and interest in technology trends, key metrics, and capital markets impacting the innovation ecosystem.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to work collaboratively and cross functionally.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field
  • Minimum Required:10+ years' of related experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

Salary: USD $250,000.00/Yr. - USD $300,000.00/Yr.
Actual salaries may vary, and may be based on several factors, including but not limited to each candidates qualifications, skills, and overall competencies for the position. The base salary is one component of Stifels overall compensation package for each individual employee.
