Veneer workers may cut, shape, and apply these thin layers to furniture, cabinetry, or other wood products. Tasks can include operating machinery, sanding, gluing, and inspecting finished surfaces. This role requires attention to detail and knowledge of woodworking techniques.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for someone working as a Veneer?

As a Veneer, your daily tasks will often involve selecting and preparing wood veneers, applying them to furniture or panels using adhesives and specialized tools, and ensuring a smooth and flawless finish. You may collaborate closely with carpenters, cabinetmakers, and designers to ensure projects meet both structural and aesthetic standards. Quality inspection, minor repairs, and maintaining equipment are also regular parts of the job. This role often requires attention to fine details and the ability to work efficiently on both individual and team projects, contributing to the overall success of woodworking or furniture manufacturing operations.

To excel as a Veneer, you need expertise in woodworking techniques, an eye for detail, and experience with surface preparation and finishing, often gained through vocational training or apprenticeships. Strong problem-solving, time management, and teamwork abilities set outstanding Veneers apart in their field. Mastery of these skills ensures high-quality craftsmanship, efficient workflow, and client satisfaction in producing and applying veneer finishes.

Oakwood Veneer Company โ€“ Troy, MI

Oakwood Veneer Company is seeking a full-time Technical Customer Service & Sales Specialist to join our team in Troy, Michigan. This is a full-time on-site position working Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM in a professional office and manufacturing environment located at our Troy, MI headquarters.

We are looking for an experienced, dependable, and highly detail-oriented candidate with a background in wood veneer, woodworking, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, architectural millwork, laminates, or related industries. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, mechanically minded, and comfortable solving problems independently while communicating professionally with customers and internal teams.

This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys taking ownership, helping customers solve technical problems, learning detailed manufacturing systems, and becoming a true expert in the wood veneer industry. In this role, you will work directly with customers to help solve veneer-related problems in the field. Customers may call with questions involving veneer cracking, checking, bonding, finishing, application methods, substrate issues, or product selection. You will also work closely with Oakwood Veneer's manufacturing and production teams to help identify possible causes of product or production-related issues and improve long-term product performance and quality.

Key responsibilities include:

We are looking for someone who wants to become deeply knowledgeable about veneer manufacturing, veneer applications, defect prevention, and technical troubleshooting. Extensive paid training will be provided during the first 30+ days so the candidate develops a full understanding of Oakwood Veneer's systems, manufacturing processes, veneer grades, and quality standards.

Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working with wood veneer or in closely related woodworking or manufacturing industries. Experience in technical customer service, inside sales, manufacturing support, quality control, production troubleshooting, or woodworking sales is preferred.

The ideal candidate will be:
โ€ข Self-driven and comfortable making decisions independently
