Leads a team of dedicated Project Managers. Manages, coaches, supports and develops Project Managers in managing projects according to defined Project Management policies, guidelines, programs and standards.
The Director, Business Sustainability is accountable for driving Varian's sustainability priorities towards Siemens Healthineers' corporate sustainability commitments and climate action requirements. The role partners closely with Varian executive management and the corporate sustainability function to ensure credible strategy execution, measurable progress, and audit-ready sustainability performance across operations and the value chain.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the sustainability program at Varian, contributing to Siemens Healthineers' corporate sustainability objectives and near-term/long-term commitments.
• Support the Varian executive management team in driving education, communication, and implementation of sustainability priorities across the company. Facilitate discussions with Varian leaders to ensure alignment, progress, and executive report outs related to sustainability target achievements, program initiatives, reporting priorities, climate action progress, and sustainability-related risk and opportunity management.
• Serve as the primary interface and coordination lead from Varian, working closely with the corporate sustainability function for strategic alignment and implementation. Contribute business perspectives in sustainability leadership forums and sounding boards, supporting program-level decision making, and helping steer implementation of sustainability priorities across Varian businesses.
• Lead company-wide measurement, monitoring, reporting, and reduction of environmental impacts at Varian, in alignment with standards, methodologies and frameworks mandated by corporate climate strategy and governance. Leverage enterprise dashboards to track performance of annual carbon reduction plans within the Varian value stream.
• Lead efforts to further develop the environmental sustainability strategy at Varian with a particular emphasis on Scope 3 upstream and downstream activities and support consistent implementation across Varian businesses.
• Engage with cross-functional teams to implement the Sustainable by Design approach, advancing ecodesign principles and circularity across Varian products and business models.
• Support response processes on sustainability surveys and sustainability disclosures through data collection, validation, and alignment with corporate reporting requirements.
Qualifications and experience
• Advanced degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, business, public policy, or a related field.
• Extensive professional experience (typically 10+ years) in sustainability, climate action, environmental management, or related fields within a complex, global organization.
• Strong working knowledge of sustainability strategy execution and sustainability performance management across operations and the value chain.
• Experience translating corporate sustainability commitments, targets, and frameworks into pragmatic business-level implementation.
• Expertise in climate change mitigation, decarbonization roadmaps for Scope 1, 2, and 3, and climate-related risk and resilience.
• Familiarity with sustainability reporting and requirements for data quality, governance, and audit-readiness.

• Strong analytical and systems thinking skills, with the ability to connect sustainability targets, operational levers, risks, and business outcomes.
• Comfortable operating at the intersection of strategy, governance, and implementation in an evolving sustainability and regulatory landscape.

The base pay range for this position is:
$215,850 - $296,791
Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
