Monday-Friday Shifts: ( 5:30am - 2:00pm; 6:00am - 2:30pm; 6:30am -3:00pm; 7:00am - 3:30pm)
This position follows a variable work calendar based on operational needs. Shifts are determined by the supervisor. Work assignments may occur during school closure periods, including breaks and summer months. The position also participates in a rotating on-call schedule to support emergency or time-sensitive operational needs.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Delivers food, supplies, and equipment to schools for child nutrition operations. Performs work related to warehouse receiving and order pick-up. Responsible for transporting food, supplies, and equipment between the central office, vendors, and school sites. Supports daily meal service operations by ensuring timely, accurate, and sanitary delivery of all items needed for school nutrition programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations;
  • Ability to follow multi-step written and oral instructions;
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team;
  • Ability to drive a large delivery truck;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form in English using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, attorneys, parents, and the public.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Two years of experience in driving a large delivery truck;

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements;
  • Within 90 days of employment complete training and certification requirements as a forklift operator;
  • Within 60 days of employment, successfully complete Child Nutrition Services Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL);
  • Experience in food service, warehouse operations, or delivery;
  • Four years of experience in driving a large delivery truck;
  • ServSafe Certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Operates a large delivery truck for drop off and pick up of foods, supplies, materials, and food service equipment.
  2. Loads delivery trucks to most efficiently meet daily routes.
  3. Performs work to unload and properly shelve products at delivery locations.
  4. Maintains a high degree of safety during loading and unloading operations and while driving route.
  5. Completes required paperwork and collects signatures of deliveries for audit control.
  6. Receives, stores, palletizes, stages, and rotates goods in central warehouse in accordance with HACCP and uses best practices for handling potentially hazardous chemicals. To include counting inventory.
  7. Attends annual training in accordance with the National School Lunch Program federal regulations for professional standards and maintains documentation of attendance for auditing purposes.
  8. Performs daily pre-safety and operational checks of vehicles, refrigeration apparatus, and equipment; reports concerns appropriately to maintain safety and operational standards.
  9. Cleans vehicle/truck to maintain appearance and sanitary standards.
  10. Ensures all vehicles are fueled with the appropriate fuel type in accordance with manufacturer and district requirements.
  11. Palletizes and stages orders along with receives, stores, and rotates goods.
  12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office, warehouse, and cafeteria environment. Work requires exposure to variable weather elements when making deliveries. It is also performed in variable environments with exposure to hot, cold, and freezing temperatures and moderate noise levels. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment and operating warehouse forklifts and pallet jacks. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally or 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.
