Job description

Our organization is currently on the lookout for fellows specializing in Advanced Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology. This one-year surgical program emphasizes thyroid and parathyroid procedures while providing extensive exposure to Head & Neck Surgery. In certain cases, a two-year commitment may be considered. We highly encourage participation in mission electives.

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to train in a dedicated thyroid and parathyroid practice. The fellow will receive mentorship from a seasoned expert with nearly 20 years of experience in this specialized field. The fellow is expected to engage in over 300 thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including reoperative procedures, minimally invasive techniques, management of regional metastatic disease, and surgeries for non-localizing conditions. Additionally, the fellow will develop skills in thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound and cancer management. To complement this focused mentorship, the fellow will also gain insights from six full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists who regularly perform thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. Depending on the fellow's interests, there may be opportunities to participate in major head and neck ablative surgeries, microvascular reconstructions, TOLMS/TORS, endoscopic skull base surgery, and open/craniofacial surgery. A balanced operative experience tailored to the fellow's interests is encouraged. Involvement in resident and student education, along with limited research activities, is also anticipated. The fellow may assist at the VA or county hospital for specific cases if desired.

There are limited call and clinic responsibilities to ensure proficiency in ultrasound and biopsy techniques. While this is primarily a surgical fellowship focused on operative experience, time off and resources for board exam preparation will be provided. A California Medical License is mandatory.

Candidates should have completed ENT residency training and be eligible to obtain a California Medical License and ENT privileges.
