Job Title : Solar Field Engineer / Project Engineer (Solar Construction)
Location: Charlotte County / Richmond, VA
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential for Extension)
Pay Rate: $40–$42/hr
Per Diem: $178/day for qualified candidates residing more than 50 miles from the project site
Schedule : Up to 75%+ travel throughout Virginia project sites
Position Overview
  • We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support utility-scale solar construction projects across Virginia.
  • This role will work closely with construction project managers, EPC contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders to oversee project execution, technical issues, compliance, commissioning, and project turnover activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support solar project management teams with technical issue resolution and project execution activities
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including EPC contractors, permitting agencies, owner's representatives, operations, environmental, safety, and supply chain teams
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with contract requirements, technical specifications, and permitting conditions
  • Manage project RFIs, NCRs, submittals, and change orders
  • Participate in contractor meetings and provide project status updates
  • Support commissioning activities, punch list management, turnover walkdowns, and project closeout documentation
  • Review EPC deliverables, technical reports, specifications, performance test reports, and as-built drawings
  • Review environmental inspection reports and provide recommendations to contractors
  • Assist with milestone tracking, contractor notices, and commercial documentation
  • Prepare weekly project reports and communicate project status to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with project teams to drive consistency, best practices, and successful project delivery
Required Qualifications
  • 5–6+ years of engineering or construction engineering experience
  • Prior experience as a Solar Field Engineer or Project Engineer on utility-scale solar construction projects
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy generation systems, power distribution/transmission systems, and large-scale construction projects
  • Experience with RFIs, NCRs, commissioning, project turnover, and construction oversight
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams and contractors
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of Virginia E&S and stormwater regulations
  • Experience with scheduling and cost management
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
