Job description

JMS Energy is seeking skilled and safety focused Journeyman Electrician to complete work on solar projects throughout Illinois. This role includes the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on commercial renewable energy projects and requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards in the rapidly evolving energy sector.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems for solar power systems, inverters and related components.
  • Perform electrical work for power distribution and interconnection to ensure seamless integration of renewable energy systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents specific to renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to optimize system performance and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Test and troubleshoot renewable energy systems, diagnosing and repairing issues efficiently.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and job site hazard assessments.
  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical regulations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and safety.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices, providing guidance on proper installation techniques and safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and clients, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment focused on achieving project goals efficiently.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven ability to install and maintain electrical systems for commercial-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, renewable energy systems, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Proficiency in the use of electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve system issues.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with diverse project teams.

 Required Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensed electrical journeyman in any state
  • NABCEP certification or experience in solar and battery energy systems is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a licensed electrician, with at least 2 years in renewable energy projects such as solar or BESS.

Phsyical Requirements:

  • This position involves both office-based tasks and on-site inspections.
  • When working at a job site this role may be exposed to site conditions such as dust, fumes and loud noises.
  • On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in dynamic job site environments.
